(sp.?)

i know - i could google, btu afetr my recent self-diagnosis-via-google hysteria, thought i'd ask you instead

my dad is poorly - has been unable to open his eyes w/out throwing up or feeling wobbly/falling over for a day or so

my mum's a bit shite when he's ill (so rare that it freaks her out and she thinks he's going to die) so can't remember much about what the docs said, but she mentioned it's prob viral and that it can last from a few days to a year ()

anyone any experience?

Hi I am getting over a bout of this now.

It does sound like that, I didn't have severe symptoms, but can be like you described.

It can last a long time, although the main symptoms usually get better within a week or so.

Hope he feels better soon.

My mum had it, she would have bouts that would last for 1 or 2 days. Would be unable to get up and threw up badly for the duration.

She had about 3 or 4 different attacks over a 6month period. GP said it was probably viral and did come out at home to see her one time and give her an anti-emetic injection (stemetal). Which helped.

Mum did search via google and found some "eye exercises" to help speed her recovery . Not sure what they were exactly - Vestibular Rehabilitation (just looked on google). Not sure how proven the exercises are.

do a search for it on this sight - i got great advice when mu Mum had it last year . hers lasted only a couple of weeks but it's nasty

chocolateshoes · 18/05/2007 14:08

Yes I had it a few years ago now. Once you have had it it can recur but it is unlikely that it will be as bad again. It is a viral infection of the middle ear so disturbs your vision and can make you feel quite sick. I was laid out for 2 weeks and couldn't drive for a while. He needs to rest but there's nothing you can do but let it run its course. You can get medication. Its nasty so he'll need lots of sympathy! Hope he feels better soon.
