I am regular who has name changed for this - if you recognise my posting style keep quiet.

I have had a non-hormone coil for the past four years - no problems with it. My period was due 2 days ago and it hasn't come but I am not usually that regular.

There has been illness going round (temps etc) and I have felt under the weather, but I now have a constant feeling of sickness and I am off coffee. I have been like this before and it only meant one thing.

I know I could do a pregancy test and find out and it could be negative and put my mind at rest but I am scared to do it. If it is positive I have no idea how I could have another baby at this point in my life.

I don't know what to do and I am sat here fretting.

Take a test. You know you have to. Knowing cannot be worse than worrying, and the odds are that you are worrying for nothing.

LIZS · 18/05/2007 11:01

Won't the dr just ask if she's done a test ? Sorry, you know you have to if you want an answer and it needn't be the outcome you fear .

Flamesparrow · 18/05/2007 11:02

I don't know if it helps, but I regularly get pregnant feelings with the coil.

I react to the change in hormones very very early on, and I have just put it down to conception happening, and then the coil does its coily magic - so I have the first rush of hormones (usually for about a week) and then it stops.

But I would still say to take a test - it will put your mind straight one way or the other, then you can deal with it. You don't wanna be pregnant with the coil still in and all the complications that happen with that, regardless of what you decide to do in the end.

amidaiwish · 18/05/2007 11:03

do the test
you know you have to. tis the only way.

amidaiwish · 18/05/2007 11:05

so Flame, could you get a +ve test with the coil and then not get pg as the coil prevents implantation

sorry, v naive i know.

twelveyeargap · 18/05/2007 11:09

Yes, you can use a coil as a kind of late emergency contraception - to prevent implantation.

Flamesparrow · 18/05/2007 11:11

I have no idea Its only a theory - never put it to the test... should do that

My periods are all over the place, but my ovulation time is always very apparent... If it happens, it happens about 3 1/2 weeks after ov - I get sickness, that niggly tummy ache (not quite period pains but not ill either), and some spotting. Then all goes back to normal until proper period comes.

I'm a bit reluctant to try out a test because the whole way the coil works is still a bit of a area to me - I need the effects, but hate the idea of it iyswim

ledodgy · 18/05/2007 11:11

If it does implant though it can lead to an ectopic pregnancy so you need to do a test then if it's positive or even if it's negative and you're still having these symptoms see a GP.

PippiLangstrump · 18/05/2007 11:14

I'd do the test asap. I got the same feelings for two months in a row as Flame sad. I was so sure I was pregnant, I took three tests (I wnated to be - hence coil is out now BTW) and they were all negative and wasn't. So you might be worring for nothing.

PippiLangstrump · 18/05/2007 11:17

Flame I know what you mean. To think that conception happen and then it's 'wasted' makes me a bit so I try not to focus on it much. specially now that I do want one.

lollypopmax · 18/05/2007 11:25

my mate had 1 baby & 1 ectopic pregnancy, both times she had a coil fitted - get a test and find out as soon as!
