If she is breastfeeding that is a problem. When I got home I was still bleeding after a week, luckily the health visitor asked me if I was still bleeding and I told her. She told me to go to my doctor (as far as I remember), who sent me to hospital and they found that they had left some of the placenta still in there (me, my tummy), and I had to get it operated out D&C. Sorry it is all a bit of a blur because during operation they accidentally made a whole in my womb, which then got infected and I was taken by ambulance back to the hospital.

But it might just be normal if she is not breastfeeding.

Doesn't sound normal to me.

i would have thought that even if no infection, constant bleeding is not normal, and needs investigating.....the lochia after birth lasts around 6 weeks, then stops, then even if her periods restarted, she should not be bleeding/ spotting every day..worth going back to the docs

She not breast feeding. She says she does have a regular heavy week period as normal then it is just on and off for the other three weeks sometimes heavy and sometimes spotting. Think the swab was to check for any std's but this was all clear. She was given antibiotics but she had to stop taking them due to side effects. All the results dept told her was to conitnue with antib. I wondered about the leaving placenta behind too but would it go on for so long ?
Have told her to make another apt anyway, thanks.

if she didn;t finish the course of ABs, then there might be a residual infection

there could be something left, unlikely, but it needs checking

I think she should insist on seeing a specialist. It does not sound as if the GP knows what is going on.
