Can hearing aids damage hearing

My son wears hearing aids because he has glue ear. He has a mild hearing loss of 25 or 35Db. Anyway he is now convinced that his hearing has improved and no longer needs to wear hearing aids.

If my son is right that the glue has cleared up, does he risk damaging his ears by wearing hearing aids?

I think the best thing to do is get an urgent appointment with the GP or the audiologist. They should be able to tell you for definite if his condition has improved or not. How old is he? Maybe he's becoming embarrassed by his hearing aids?

My son is very cooperative about his hearing aids. He is just insistant that he doesn't need them anymore.

His hearing aids are bright blue and have pictures of the tweenies. There are several childen with hearing aids at his school and embrassment isn't an issue.

Get him an appointment for a hearing check, and take advice from the experts when you have the results.

He may be telling you what he thinks you would like to hear, or even what he himself would like to hear, and it would be unwise to ditch the hearing aids without having further hearing tests done.

We have an appointment for 6th June. Its not bad for the NHS.

There is an audiologist on here if I remember correctly, helped me when I was going through me hearing loss. Lets me see if I can find her for you.
