mole removal

anyone know of a safe and permanent way to remove a huge mole for children? dd only 6 mths so not planning to do it yet until she is a bit bigger if there is a safe way to do it. am not too bothered if i don't either. just wanted to know

Hi hazlinh, sorry, not sure what the correct method would be.. have you talked to your GP? I had a large mole removed off my waistline when I was age 10-ish. I've also got another one on my back which my gp has referred me to the local Mount Vernon hospital as they have a special 'mole removing dept'! there. Best talk to a specialist. I think it would depend on size and position and what 'type' of mole it is. I believe freezing is the most common and quite quick procedure for avg size moles.

hi karen99, lisa78, what sort of methods did u undergo? were they under general anaesthetic?was it painful?i assume the procedure didnt leave u traumatised?
her paediatrician said not to worry and that nothing will get rid of it.so did my gynae. and my dermatologist. i dont know what sort of specialist to go to.
dd was born with a large mole on her forehead, havent measured it, but it covers almost a third of her forehead. i can foresee the heartache in her life in school...college...boyfriends...not to mention cancer-risk!

Perhaps try talking to a plastic surgeon. Such a large surface area may require skin grafting. Or another thing the plastic boys do is to insert a balloon pump under the skin which they gradually inject with more saline to stretch the surrounding skin (over several weeks if not months I think). Then when the mole is removed they have the available skin to close up the wound which would mean less scarring and risk of rejection than a graft. My dh works with plastic surgeons (he's an anaesthetist) so I hear about some of the wierd things they can do, but I'm no expert.
I've had moles removed from my back and chest under local anaesthetic, but they were only relatively small. One stitch in each once removal. This is a simple procedure taking only minutes but your situation sounds more involved if its as big as you suggest.

Hi Hazlinh, sorry I forgot to check this thread again. I think hunnybunny has given the best suggestion, I would have thought such a large one would need their specialist attention. Mine was about the size of a 5p piece (but protruded alot) and had a local anth and frozen/cut off. Your gp should be able to help with this one and refer you to the correct specialist in your area.
