Hair loss - is Viviscal worth it? it's 60 quid!

Hello has anyone taken supplements to promote hair growth?

I've never been very hairy on my body but always had a lot of head hair.
Now I'm 52, post menopause, slightly overweight, been stressed recently, and my mum lost her hair for no apparent reason starting in her mid sixties and has worn a wig ever since.

Now I look at my fringe and it is definitely getting thin. My armpit hair has totally disappeared and pubic hair has got very sparse. Eyebrows gone white and have always been a bit unnoticeable.

I don't seem to need to wash my hair these days, it never gets greasy. I only wash it if I've been swimming.
I'm wondering if I should get my long hair cut and get a wig made out of it!!
Any advice? What was your strategy if you knew you would lose your hair or thought you might?

I think Viviscal is probably snake oil.

Have you had blood tests to check your thyroid?

Sadly, I think you've probably got female pattern hairloss kickstarted by the menopause.

You're unlikely to lose it all but it's still distressing when hair starts to thin.

Google hairstyles for thinning hair. There's also some products that can help disguise sparse spots. I think I might investigate toppers at some point. There's a lovely poster called @ilovecherries who has kindly shared photos in the selection of wigs she's got - she looks great.

I tried it but didn't notice any difference. At least you "won" with the body hair. I am hairy everywhere apart from my head!

Thank you for your replies. I recently had a thyroid check as I was feeling so tired all the time. The doc said my thyroid was normal. I think I will go back and talk about it again. I also have dry skin and a dry mouth.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you olddog. Did it stop it thinning more perhaps?

I might have female pattern hairloss then Russel. It's okay now, but I might have to plan what to do if it gets thinner. It has always been on my mind that I might lose it, as my mum has, for no reason that the doctors could find!

I will go and have a look at ilovecherries' hairstyles.

Thank you for your replies.
