12 year old loss of appetite

My12 year old son has never been a big eater, and avoids breakfast despite my urgings. Since Sunday he has hardly eaten a thing. He isn't having lunch at school, and in the evening just picks at his dinner. Although he had a two week bout of sickness 3weeks ago, he had recovered his appetite after that. In fact during his sickness episode he found it difficult to try and do a 24 hour fast.
He seems otherwise to be OK. Bright enough, playing football etc. He just keeps saying he is not hungry.
Any advice? Should I take him to the doctor?

I would be concerned about the possibility of an eating disorder OP. Have you got access to his social media and messaging? Are you fully aware what sites he's visiting etc?

I don't want to scare you as it could simply be a hangback from his illness but eating disorders among adolescent males have risen sharply in recent years. I would say a visit to the GP would be wise if this carries on above another 2 weeks.

Keep an eye on him, don't comment....make sure there's plenty of what he likes on offer and accessible.

I agree with everything previous poster wrote.

Wishing him well.

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. He seems to be recovering his appetite now. Though he just had his braces tightened, and is finding it difficult to chew! So soups, yoghurt and ice cream for a day or two.
