Could dd ages six possibly be going bald?

She has lovely thick shoulder lenght hair but on examining her scalp tonight (was suspecting nits) I noticed loads of places where the hair has stopped growing from her scalp and she has bald patches. There's no redness, no obvious signs of problems, just no hair growing. She's got such thick hair I hadn't noticed till I looked at her scalp. Am starting to panic now!

sounds like alopecia to me. My 12 y o has had it, and it caused no end of heartache. The bald patches seemed to travel round her head as hair grew back. We were referred to a dermatology specialist for it and the cream she was prescribed worked ... or did it just go away on its own? It's quite a mysterious ailment, can be fungal infection or as in dd's case, related to immune system.

Anyway, I suggest visiting GP.
