Jaundice developing in a baby 16 days old anyone experienced this?1
Today 20:15 Moominlola

Hi - this is my second thread today - I’m a new Mum

My baby has developed jaundice after 16 days from birth - she was born at 33 weeks due to preeclampsia

Commonly jaundice develops 3-4 days after birth

Has anyone had this with their baby ?

Would love to hear - in need of support

Thank you

You need to have her seen by the doctors promptly and make sure this is nothing more serious. There are rare things that can be serious but statistically the chances are still nothing worrying but even so, please be safe and insist she is seen.

Thank you so much - she spent 6 hours under the blue lamp and now jaundice free - the rare cases were the focus of my worry

Aww, glad she is doing well. Keep and eye and don't be afraid to push for further checks/tests if you are worried. It's hard enough being a new mum without adding worry but it's never wrong to speak up and ensure that you are heard if you are worried. I hope that it all goes smoothly from here now and no further concerns for you.

Good the lamp helped. My child had breastmilk jaundice diagnosed a few weeks after birth, by the paediatrician who was diagnosing reflux. Ended up being something that resolved itself a few weeks later, with some lurid orange nappies. The paed said it was something in my milk that prevented her liver clearing the bilirubin and if she wasn't looking less yellow in a few weeks, we'd have looked at formula feeding for a few feeds in a row, to kickstart it.
