How to get and FEEL healthy?!

strongerthan · 13/04/2018 12:58

This may sound ridiculous but at the grand age of 41, a shitty relationship break up & 1x DC it's about time I got healthy.

I don't need to lose weight although shifting half a stone would be a bonus.

I want to get more active, eat and sleep better.

How can I achieve this? I have never in my life been fit and healthy - now it's time!

Any tips greatly received.

How much water do you drink?
Even cutting out coffee / tea and just drinking water makes a huge difference to my energy levels. I struggle to drink water but it really helps

Good for you for being so motivated OP. I did a big lifestyle overhaul a few years ago and feel so much better than I used to

More water, less caffeine, less alcohol

I try to do no processed sugar in the week. So I still eat plenty of fruit, but no booze, no cake, chocolate, biscuits, packet sauces etc.

I follow 80/20 when it comes to diet - 80% of the time you watch what you eat, cut back on sugar, plenty of fruit and veg, limited meat, loads of water etc, then 20% of the time, you don't go wild but you indulge. Extra indulging on holidays!

Try to get as much sleep as you need. Makes such a difference

Exercise - it really does make everything in life so much better. What sort of basis are you starting from? Do you walk regularly? Have you ever exercised, or are you starting totally from scratch?

Ok so I need to up my water intake. Start walking / fresh air everyday. And yes, cut the booze!!!

I'm starting from scratch. I'm a tired 41 year old

Walking is good exercise for health but you won't burn tons of calories. Is there any other sort of exercise you fancy trying - running? Gym classes? Weight lifting? The key is finding something you actually enjoy and then doing it 3 times a week at least. If you do try something new, like spinning for example, it will absolutely suck to start with, so you need to commit to doing it for a month to start with, then ditch it after that if you feel it's not for you. And it may be worth visiting GP to get blood pressure etc checked out if you're starting from scratch

Good luck and enjoy!
