Bleeding mid cycle on the pill (not just spotting)

Feeling fed up, had my period 2 weeks ago, very heavy, finished a week ago and now I’m bleeding again, it’s been 3 days now so not just spotting (more of a light period). Went to the gp yesterday but he wasn’t too bothered, has given me a different pill to try but can’t start taking them until I finish the old ones. Sat her with awful cramps and feeling fed up. Usually I have some bleeding mid month, it’s been happening for the past 6 months but usually just spotting that’s last a day, not a full blown period.

Any ideas what could be causing it? Should I come off the pill altogether and try something else? Go suggested a coil but I’m not keen on the idea. I am 36 if that makes any difference, I have been on the pill since I was 15 (had a few breaks to have children) and up until now it has been fine.

Which pills are the old and new ones? You could start taking the new one straight away but would need extra precautions for 7 days (combined pill) or 2 days (mini pill)

It’s the combined pill, I’m on Ovranette, changing to Cilest. I thought it would be safe to just start taking the new ones but gp said no Sad. I’m not likely to be doing the deed for 7 days anyway, I have just started seeing someone but I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it whilst bleeding anyway (I’m not sure when bleeding will stop). I have tried taking an extra pill today (Ovranette) in hope it will stop the bleeding.

Does it say anything in the leaflets about switching pill? I can't see why you couldn't just swap over and then use other precautions
