possible chicken pox

just wondering how long chicken pox spots take to blister. Ds woke up this morning with a rash over his back and one or two spots on his tummy. He seems well enough- ate breakfast and was playing etc. but the rash seems to be spreading futher down his back and on his neck. There is chicken pox going round but i thought that the spots blistered almost immediately. Any advice?

Hi wiggle my dd had chickenpox about 6 weeks ago, she was nearly 10 months at the time. Sounds very similar to how her spots started within 48 hours she was covered with blisters. How old is your ds? I'd call NHS direct or your local GP's. Cool bathes during the day helped & lots of cream.Hope he's better soon.

They take a day or two to get the pusy head. Prior to that they are like mosquito bites.

thank you! he's seven and a half months old, but i thought that if it was cp the spots would be more 'spot'like, as opposed to a rash and that they blistered quite quickly. I'll keep an eye on it for the next few hours and then call the medical centre if there is any change. Did you just use calamine lotion or was there anything else you can recommend just in case it does turn out to be cp?

Hi - if they're chicken pox they have a clear centre blister - get a torch and you can tell more easily.

my dd2 suddenly got a rash a couple of weeks ago, starting at her neck and working its way down her back and around the nappy area, with a few on her tummy. some of the spots were big and slightly raised with a bit of a head (like cp), the rest weren't. the next day was the same, the day after they were practically gone! hv said it might have been a viral thing because she had a bit of a cold...

My DD2 has just got chicken pox - started with one blister on her bottom & then has spread all over her bottom & round her neck at the moment.

She is 9.5 mths old & off her food, & is breastfeeding, instead of having solids but otherwise fine.

I would just say keep an eye on him. Mostly I think they are ok, but if you have any doubts, get him to the doctors immediately.

have taken ds to the docs. He has ruled out chicken pox, measles, and german measles. He thinks it is either a teething rash or an allergic reaction to something. If there isn;t any change in him or if it deteriorates then we are to take him back. So watch this space!

Does he have a fever or anything

EHM · 12/05/2007 17:58

hope all is ok.

very slightly raised but nothing to worry about -about 37.5 .He seems happy enough- not eating or drinking as much as normal but other than that he has been quite happy. Hopefully it will go down overnight. If not, we'll be back at the docs tommorrow!
