Race for Life - training with a 6 year old....help?!

I am running / walking the Race for Life in Windsor in July with DD aged 6. How on earth do I get her into shape to do this?

Can I simply follow an adult's routine of run a couple of minutes, walk one and build her up to running for 10 and walking for 5??

DD is a shrimp with tiny stick legs..she is keen as can be to do this but I want to make sure she is in good shape health-wise first.

And, should I buy her proper trainers instead of her Clarks flashing ones? If so, recommendations?

Any tips to get her round the course?

I am so proud of her for wanting to do this and I am sure she will raise loads of money, which is fab.

Any help gratefully received.

gingersj, I am doing RFL with DD who is 6 in June.

We are doing it on Sun actually, and have done a bit of desultory training. he is a much better fast runner than me tho prob won't run all the way round.

But we did it last year when she was 4 and she was fine to walk/jog it with me, with maybe one little shoulder ride up a hill. We did it in 50 mins which I thought was fab.

I think you could do the kind of training you mention, but don't worry, she will certainly get round the course, even if not running all the way. 5k not really that far.

Trainers wise, DD just wears her Clarks ones and they seemed to be fine.
Tips to get round - DH and 2 x DSs kept appearing on the course at regular intervals (ie they raced through the middle of the course so we saw them every 10 mins or so) and they ran along with us for the last fe hundred yards. It was great.

Lots and lots of luck to you both
