Anyone else got pernicious anaemia/ B12 deficiency?

I was wondering how frequently you get jabs?
Also do you get your B12 level checked before hand?

It doesn't sound nice. It's funny how a vitamin deficiency can cause such problems, i never would have thought it

Before i started having injections i was really bad one night, my whole body was aching and wouldn't stop shaking, tremors all over , it was so scary ,we nearly went into casualty but it passed after a couple of hours.

I wonder what the hell people did before there was any such thing as injections.Died of exhaustion probably

Hi, my brother has PA and a vitamin deficiency, he has has injections, an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and they can still find no reason for it, his blood count is always low, yet they still do not know why. He also interestingly has mouth ulcers.

MumtoBen · 29/02/2008 21:42

Hi again The Blonde

I had a colonoscopy done some years ago. I was sedated and can't remember anything so it's not that bad. The worst thing was the bowel prep - you can't leave the bathroom for hours. If you have an endoscopy I don't think you have to do it.

I haven't had any mouth ulcers in years. I get numbness in my fingers and bizarrely my thighs!

Still tired at the moment but a bit better. Only bf 4 times a day now. Finally stopped losing weight. How about you - are you still tired?

TheBlonde · 01/03/2008 08:36

Hi there MumtoBen

I'm feeling v tired, some of it is the kids waking in the night but I'm only just about functioning at the moment

My anaemia has gotten worse after staying static for a while (probably due to AF returning).
They dropped my thyroxine dose but it was too low so they've upped it again

I'm cutting back on bf and doing about 2-3 feeds a day.
No weight loss here alas

How are your LOs?

OP posts:

DS1 has just had a tummy bug for a week. Have come down with it overnight but not too bad. DS2 is OK, but has been teething, so up in the night for hours at a time for 3 weeks. Overall though we have faired quite well over the winter. How about your LOs?

What are you taking for the anaemia? Does your thyroid problem contribute to the tiredness?

I'm going back to work in a few months, so really hoping I'm not so tired before then. You saw in 'employment' I'm in a v difficult situation with my employer as well, which is probably not helping. Are you going back to work?

Our main problem is that we have no help at all from anyone, so never get a break except what we can give each other. DS1 is a very poor sleeper (since birth), so 3 years of broken sleep is also tiring. It can take 2-3 hours some nights to get him to sleep and this has been going on for a year since he went into a bed. Have tried everything possible (reward charts, ignoring him screaming for hours, wearing him out in day, varying bedtimes.)

TheBlonde · 03/03/2008 07:50

Hope you are over the tummy bug

My LOs seem to have endless coughs and colds
DD is almost a year old now

I'm taking ferrograd tabs at the moment. The thyroid makes me feel v tired when it's not properly treated

Hope you get the employment issues sorted
I'm not working, I left work on good terms but I did do the whole grievance thing plus appeal over my maternity pay

You have my sympathy on the sleep front, it's so hard once they can get out of the bed

Hi The Blonde,

Sorry I haven't replied before. Just saw your post.

Just given up breastfeeding last week. Seem to have more energy already. Plus I am sat down at work for 8 hours a day now I am back to work part-time. I have been back at work for a few months. DS2 has been hit by one illness after another since starting nursery. DS1 is finally staying in bed in the evenings!

The employment issues are still carrying on. A solicitor is dealing with it now though.

Do they know why your anaemia is getting worse? How are you feeling?

TheBlonde · 24/08/2008 15:48

Hi MumtoBen

I meant to reply ages ago but lost the thread

Hope your employment issues are resolved now

I ended up having 3x iron drips as my ferritin had dropped very low. Felt a bit better afterwards

How are you?
