Anyone had a painless lump in their armpit?

I have been referred to breast clinic as I went to see the doctor as my right breast is slightly larger than my left. She examined my breasts and no lumps or anything suspicious, but there was a lump at the top of my armpit so she's referring me to err on the side of caution.

I have terrible health anxiety - to be honest, I'm not even sure my boobs have ever been symmetrical...maybe the constant scanning is why I've suddenly noticed.

The lump is there though at the very top of my armpit. It's painless so maybe an enlarged lymph node? Has anyone had something similar?

How large is the bump? I’ve had a small (spot sized) lump in my armpit for a few years, it’s just a lump of calcified matter - so just hard Muck essentially. I’ve also had a small and not painful lump just below my breadt which I thought was a scar but it turned out to be an embedded sesame seed ( I don’t know how it had been there 3 years).

Breast* sorry

shakeyourcaboose · 23/03/2018 22:24

Had a lump before which was due to an infected hair follicule (bad bad waxing!) hope all is ok and try some positive distraction techniques for keeping the anxiety at a level you can be ok with.

Yes I get them after a virus or infection. Had them a few times now over the years.

Most likely a harmless cyst

Panickyarse · 24/03/2018 00:42

Thanks for the replies. It's probably about the size of a grape... I'm really hoping it's just an enlarged gland or cyst but it's in my nature to catasatrophise - even though I could give perfectly rational advice to someone else Hmm

It sounds like it is a lymph node or a calcium deposit as mentioned. I have had one of my nodes flair up under my hairline on my neck before and it scared me because it was hard, it felt like a pebble.

Try getting some apple cider vinegar (with mother in it) and putting it on a cotton ball and holding it over the lump. If you notice it shrinking, it is one of your lymph nodes.

Ive got one about the size of a cherry tomato quite sunk in. Had it since wad about 12 and developing boobs. It hurts when due on my period and really hurt when was trying to establish breastfeeding. Had scans when was young and it's either breast or fatty tissue and nothing to worry about.

Panickyarse · 24/03/2018 14:56

I do think its a lymph node... but that panics me too as my right boob is bigger than the other. I've never noticed this before and have gained weight recently, so my rational side says they're unrelated... but my health anxiety obsessed side is telling me it's breast cancer which has spread to the lymph nodes Sad

I have had a painless lump in my armpit for about 20 years now - it is apparently a lipoma. Not a problem at all. Also there is nothing inherently worrying about having one breast a bit bigger than the other - many of us do.

But given that you have noticed recent changes it is good that you will be professionally checked out and hopefully reassured in the near future.

I have had a large cyst under my armpit for years, after my third pregnancy I saw the GP as it was quite swollen (hormonal) and he said it would calm down. Which it did!
Mine is quite large prob the size of 4 grapes!

Panickyarse · 25/03/2018 21:35

Thank you for the replies... it's definitely reassuring reading people's stories who have experienced similar worries. Fingers crossed my appointment won't take long to come through x

I have similar, for me I went to the breast clinic and it was confirmed as accessory breast tissue. It's still there and is tender at times of the month. I really hope that yours is benign too, and the statistics suggest that it will be but better to be safe then sorry.

Sanddunes · 17/09/2018 17:10

What did it turn out to be? I have a similar lump in my armpit. No pain though.

Radiator23 · 19/09/2018 10:42

My right boob is also bigger, so i obsessively check it for lumps.in fact my whole body is a bit lopsided!

MirandaGoshawk · 20/09/2018 08:54

Yes, I went to the doc once about a small lump in my armpit. He asked me if I'd got a cold - no. But anyway it turned out to be a lymph node. He said my body was fighting something and all was normal. It went away after a few days.

All the best to you x

Also, I've got one boob larger than the other. It's like having one foot larger. Most of us do, to some extent.
