Itchy palms and soles of feet - esp at night - any ideas????

I know this would be a v worrying symptom if pregnant but I am def not pregnant and have had these symptoms for about 6 months
Especially at bedtime I get really really itchy palms and sometimes soles of feet - it's definitely nothing I've touched and I don't get any rash or anything
Has anyone got any ideas???

It could be signs of a liver disorder, such as gallstones, or the starting of gallstones.

Do you have any pains after eating, particularly if its a fatty meal?

You can have the same blood test (Liver Function Test) as you would get to see if you had Obstetric Cholestasis (the itching in pregnancy).

I've had both OC and gallstones, so am familiar with the itching!

I get this, it's chronic excema, in my case. It comes from sweating, so I get it when I'm warm.

The excema doesn't come up in a rash exactly, but you can feel something like little grains under the skin ...

I had this, it drove me mad in bed. It turned out to be a fungal infection and was easily treated with the same creams you use for Athlete's Foot. The chemist gave me Canestan, I think. Hth.

oo thanks for the tips - have some canesten in the house so will try that for a week or so first - if no success will trudge back to the GP and get the liver test done - last time I had a liver function test it was all ok except the Bilirubin (sp?) came out high - don't know if it's related or what that means?

When did you have the liver function test and why?

Bilirubin is what makes you go yellow if you get jaundice.

This is a bit gross, but what's the colour of your wee and poo like? Is the poo light/white coloured and/or the wee dark?

Do you find yourself feeling more sleepy than normal?

The nurse can do a LFT, you don't have to see the Dr

moominsmummy · 09/05/2007 15:21

Had LFT in January as GP did full bloods before referring us for IVF
Don't know real colour of poo as I take pregnacare so the iron makes it dark anyway
am very sleepy but then with DS2.5 who still doesn't sleep through, I work 4 days a week, husband has MS, FIL with dementia etc etc - I am knackered most of the time!

Hmm... I presume pregnacare can't make you itchy... can it?

Did they say at the time why your bilirubin was likely to be up?

When I was jaundiced (due to the gallstones), I was sleeping about 18 hours a day. Not fun when you have a 1yo to take care of! Just couldn't stay awake!

At a guess the itching sounds more hormone or liver related than a skin problem. I had OC in all my pregnancies and had gallstone problems too. Not pleasant.
