Ds was not himself yesterday and barely ate anything. He had a good nights sleep, but since he woke up this morning at 7am he has been throwing up. He doesn't have a temperature, but he is a bit lifeless which I would expect if he is feeling poorly. He keeps asking for water but 5-10 minutes after drinking some he throws it straight back up. It is mixed with yellow bile but he does have a rattly chest and a bit of a cold.

I phoned his nursery to say he wouldn't be going in and she mentioned that there were a couple of others that were off with the same sort of thing too.

Is it worth seeing a doctor or should I just ride it out with him, but keep a close on him in case anything changes?

He his 23 months old btw.

Thanks

He's at risk of becoming dehydrated, which can be dangerous for small children. Get him to the doctors.

I called NHS Direct when me and my two had a similar-sounding thing - they NEVER think you are stupid for being concerned about a child. WE had to make some boiled, cooled water and take a tiny sip (really tiny, out of an egg cup if you think he might gulp) and if I/they kept that down for half an hour we were allowed another sip etc.

Doc prescribed something I can't remember - Dioralyte, something like that. They wouldn't drink it because doesn't really taste like balckcurrant. It rehydrates.

You only give small sips of water at first as if they bring it back up they are apt to lose more than they took in. Very gradually work your way up once he stops vomiting.

OK, will try that, at least he is accepting water. He has just gone to sleep again so will let him have a sip when he wakes back up.
