Have just lost a stone ish on WW and felt compelled to change my habits to prevent the weight creeping on and to try and improve health etc too...
Have read ti and bought a few bizarre supplements and things, to see how it goes...
Has anyone else given it a go or doing it too?
The lady at Holland And Barrett said it had done wonders for their business!!

I would like to loose some weight, although to me the TV prog seems to pick on very obvious people who just seem to eat junk. What happens when you eat fairly sensibly but still can't loose weight ?? Any miracle supplements ??

nutcracker · 03/08/2004 19:55

I don't think i could be doing with eating seeds and stuff. Is that all strictly nesercary Piffle ??

Piffleoffagus · 03/08/2004 19:58

I love seeds! And bean sprouts, I will find logging off the alcohol the biggest hitch though, we do drink all the time although not by my mind excessive amounts....
Basically it means be fussy about what you put in your body.
No packets, no fast food, revert to wholegrain products for pasta and breads. Food combining etc...

I bought it a couple of weeks ago piffle and am starting to include more a more bits into my diet but haven't done the 7-day detox or anything too extreme. The warm water in the morning has made me feel sooo much better tho.

shrub · 03/08/2004 20:08

i bought it too and have now bought a champion juicer and blue green algae - have found i have lots more energy, though too early to say if it really does help lose weight.

dinny · 03/08/2004 20:14

can't find book in Books Etc - where did you all buy it?

happy1 · 03/08/2004 20:28

I ordered it on Amazon, it has £5 off at the moment

wobblyknicks · 03/08/2004 20:29

I bought it off amazon too

whizzz · 03/08/2004 20:36

Sounds interesting - might give it a go. I'd miss the alcohol though !

Piffleoffagus · 04/08/2004 10:45

I started it yesterday, spirulina this morning ughhh that is pretty gross, dd loved it though. bizarre child , am off to research how to make it yummy for me.
have blue green algae too as well as multi vit, need zinc too though as have dots on my tongue I noticed.
Am not doing it wholesale but am going to be a lot more responsible about the majority of food and drink, tea is my morning drink, I am evil without it, today hot water, not problems, feel much better and clear headed on waking.

Like happy1, i bought this book on Amazon (waiting for it to be delivered). Not looking forward to completely cutting out alcohol (Is one not even allowed a little bit???).

I'd like to lose about 0.5 - 1 stone also.

Can one not have herbal tea as a substitute to 'real' tea? I have just changed to them, and I must say despite the initial headaches for about a day, I feel better and my skin is much better.

Bozza · 04/08/2004 22:15

Yes LadyP she is very big on herbal tea. Recommends varius different ones for different problems.

MancMum · 07/08/2004 12:27

do you mind if I resurrect this thread -with quite a stupid question!

I have not got the book but have seen program and what she is saying is pretty basic common sense and most of her changes I can see ans understand.

My problem is when she goes on about processed foods being bad for you.... what exactly is a processed food - I can see the extreme version - lots of E's and chemicals !! but where do you draw the line - humous is processed - is that bad... what about low sugar cereals or even bread? does the book give advice - does it require us to make everything from scratch .... the programs do seem to require lots of making food from raw ingredients?

Thanks

Piffleoffagus · 07/08/2004 12:35

processed as in refined, white flour , white sugar, anything that has gone through a refining process to get there
Tinned foods are usually, off as too high in salt, cereals are often high in sugars...
I'm not doing it for weight though, doing it to feel better
I too gave up tea first thing and have a lot more get up and go first thing. Eat more fruit too, and drinking more water. But the spirulina is awesome stuff, I now mix it with apple juice and it is much easier to drink down!!
Houmous should be fine, it is simply gone through a pureeing process, not a refining one..
HTH!

MancMum · 07/08/2004 13:11

Thanks for that P!!

Just out interest what does spirulina do for you and what is it - sounds like something slimy that you find on the tops of canals!!

It's really dificult to work out how to lose weight and what diet is gonna work. I tried the Atkins long before my son was born (June 2nd 2003 - he's so lovely) and lost a stone fairly easily. Then once he had come along and I had gained almost 3 stone I was finding it hard to shift the weight with "sensible" eating, so I tried it again last September and failed miserably.

I think what needs to be brought into the equation or perhaps needs to be understood is that we're all different, we all have different metabolisms - our age, weight, height, and body fat mass, plus other factors, all contribute to how much weight we'll lose and how long it'll take.

What has worked for me is accidentally discovering a Personal Diet Coach via a search engine. I used to get stressed, miserable, depressed with myself and then I would feel bad about my shape and pig out. I was a new mum, I was very unfit and I was always so tired that I was finding it hard to physically cope with the demands of a new baby. I'm a graphic designer by trade and this was a whole different deal for me.

I finally had enough by mid november and when I discovered this "personal diet coach" she simply recomended a 3 meal a day healthy eating plan which she said would first increase my energy levels then give me some weight/inch loss and with that I'd begin to feel much happier in myself.

Well she was right - I went from a size 16 (11st 10lbs) to a size 12 in just over 8 weeks and now I'm a size 10 (8st 6lb) and very happy. You should check out her website is www.healthnutronics.co.uk her name is Sarah. I'd recommend her to everyone she really made a difference to me !

I know your not meant to leave websites but I think she could be of use to some of you

Good luck

Tammy

Ive watched the series and bought the book and want to feed my family in the best way I can. Many of the ingredients ive not heard of and cant find in the supermarket........anyone know a good on-line place to get all this stuff from..........Im guessing some of it is quite pricey too.

The other problem is getting a 4 year old and 2 year old to eat it. I know the children on the programme scoffed it all but my children sadly wont do this. I struggle to get them to eat 1 pea. I think I eat pretty healthy, no takeaways and fresh fruit and veg every day, but when I did her Yes No questionaire I didnt come out well. I find the book has good ideas and common sense but in reality is a bit extreme for the average Mum to keep up on a daily basis. Im going to take everything on board and do my best. Would love to hear feedback on any recipes that little ones liked though. Off to eat my pumpkins seeds now to boost my sex drive....hubby watch out.

pepsi · 08/08/2004 20:17

Oh and does anyone know how old Gillian McKeith is, in one of the pictures in the book she looks so much younger than she does on the show.........please someone tell me she is 110 to spur me on.

runragged · 08/08/2004 20:29

Bamtam, have just registered on the website you suggested. But... what do they do? There is bugger all actual information on there, am a bit worried that I'm going to get a massive lecture from them when they phone or ....

ScummyMummy · 08/08/2004 20:37

I reckon she's 76 from her leathery face. I'm not one for slagging off those unknown to me but good grief she comes across as a nasty piece of workon the teev. Is it really necessary to be as vile as her when reeducating people in nutritional health, I wonder?

Tinker · 09/08/2004 00:00

I believe she's about 43 - I'd be demanding my money back if I look like that in a few years time. She's a charlatan I tell you.

juniper68 · 09/08/2004 00:21

Blimey is that all she is? My DH said she's enough to put you off eating well but then again he's just weighed himself post hols and has put a stone on!

I must say I feel better when I eat more seeds etc. but I couldn't go to her extremes.

BamTam · 09/08/2004 18:06

Hi runraged 8)

don't worry there's no lectures or swindles just a brief Q&A and from what I can remember a run thru of what she does and what she can offer.

I felt like I was being screened - in fact I don't think Sarah works with any old body who she speaks to. My aunty called her and was told that she wasn't serious enough and to call back when she was ready to change her lifestyle.

What I was impressed with was the aftercare. I was called a lot in the first 2 weeks to make sure I was following the plan correctly and that I was getting the results and then about once maybe twice a week to log my results. Better than going to a drafty old church to get a weigh-in in front of everyone and feeling bad cuase I'd only lost 2 lbs in the last month.

I felt in comfortable, confident and in safe hands with how I was treated which in itself inspired me to do it properly to the letter. I wouldn't worry if I were you, ultimately you can say no or dictate what pace you want to go at so you're always gonna be in control - what's to lose except for the weight ?

If you took an average 30 month old child and pick it up - thats what I've lost give or take lb or two !!

If you don't try it you'll never know, suck it and see !!!

Tammy

Lowryn · 09/08/2004 18:55

Well, I have lost 5lbs this week on this diet.
Some of this is because I can't find half the ingredients in our backwater!
My only query is whether this diet is okay to do if you are breastfeeding...?

mckenzie · 09/08/2004 19:05

I'd love to get a copy of the book but tried ordering it yesterday from WH Smith and they are out of stock and are quoting 75 days for the re-print.

Is it still in some shops do you know? Has anyone seen it around?
