Ovarian Cyst/ UTI/ Worse?

TeaMuncher · 15/03/2018 22:07

Ladies I need your expert advise because this has now gone on for ages and I'm worried.

I started having dull pain in my left pelvic/ ovary area back in Jan. I also needed to wee more often than usual, had a distinct lack of appetite and felt generally crap. There were traces of protein and blood in my urine so I went through 2 courses of anti-bios to try and clear the suspected UTI. All urine tests since have been clear, but the symptoms remain. The last few days, the pain has been worse than before (but never really bad) and the need to wee more often is so annoying!

I'm not convinced it's anything to do with a UTI and I'm terrified it could be ovarian cancer. I've got an ultrasound booked but it's not for 4 weeks and I'm stressing out. It could also be an ovarian cyst perhaps?

Any tips/ experiences welcome! Xx

@TeaMuncher for context I've had a baby and kidney stone in the past two years. I'd take 1028272662 kidney stones (well, my experience of them) than have another back to back labour haha. So many people said 'you'll be fine as you've had a kidney stone' ... They were wrong lol

GP off sick today Sad and I'm loathed to go through it all again with another GP. So I think I'll drop a test in and then book in later in week.

The pain and need to wee feeling has been much better today. It's so weird coz I know it's lurking and will be back with a vengeance in 3 weeks time Hmm If only it would go and stay gone!!! Whatever it is!!!

Still haven't ruled out a cyst... but my chances of moving the scan are slipping away...

I'm an ovarian cancer survivor. It's usual to make an urgent two week referral for suspected cancers and I was referred like this. My CA-125 came back normal but my mass was cancer.

If you have any of the symptoms for ovarian cancer, you need to push for an urgent referral. Flowers

TeaMuncher · 19/03/2018 19:40

@Ickyockycocky I'm just not sure if they are symptoms. Would you mind telling me what yours were? I don't have any bloating, just pain (that comes and goes) in my left 'ovary' area and I need to wee a lot more frequently. It seems (confusingly) to be connected to my hormones.

Cannot imagine what you've been through. Props to you mama Thanks

PS. GP took blood a few weeks back, but not the CA one. All came back fine (slight drop in white blood cells but apparently that's normal Hmm)

My symptoms were increased urinary urgency, a dull ache over my left ovary and disturbed bleeding.

TeaMuncher · 19/03/2018 20:27

@Ickyockycocky yikes. OK now I'm scared as this has gone on since Jan. Scan is in 3 weeks but I'm trying to get hold of my GP to push it through.

Do you mind me asking some more Qs? Just ignore if you do.

Did your symptoms come and go? How long did you have them for? What was the stage/treatment? I'm guessing it was successful as you describe yourself as a 'survivor'!! x

Update: saw GP today who has expedited my scan to 'emergency' and requested more bloods including CA one. Also said if pain/ urine symptoms get worse I need to call her and she'll give me an emergency referral to the gynaecologist.

I'm feeling incredibly anxious. Relieved that she's on the case, but scared that everything is pointing to my ovaries...

Urine was clear, no trace of blood even, so she said unlikely to be kidney stones, but they'll scan the kidneys anyway.

Just wish this had happened several weeks ago!! Sad

found your post TeaMuncher! God, I hadn't even thought of kidney stones (adds it to the list of possible things i might have Hmm. Sorry to hear your urgency has ramped up- there's nothing worse. I find it so hard to manage with 3 kids and the hectic life I have as it is, like we need this too! The pain I had the other night was kind of low down left hand side. I've had ovarian cysts before and for me its always more of a sharp stabbing pain, whereas this pain is dull/achey. I've got a blood test tomorrow but a weeks wait to get the results. I'm annoyed my doctor didn't mark it urgent otherwise I'd have had it by now.

sunshine05 · 22/03/2018 07:36

ah just seen you've already had a blood test. So is the GP doing the CA one? He's added it to mine to get done.

sunshine05 · 22/03/2018 07:42

Ok must read more carefully! Seen the bit re the CA test and scan. Have you had an ovarian cyst before? Is it the sort of ache that stops you in your tracks? Mine was on my RH side last time and I was so worried it was appendicitis that I went to the walk in out of hours clinic. The pain made me double over. Glad they've bought your scan forward, hopefully you'll get some answers soon!

TeaMuncher · 22/03/2018 07:56

@sunshine05 ah thanks for you replies. No, it's really not too bad, just a dull ache that comes and goes. It's making its presence felt that's for sure. Sometimes it's there's for days on end, sometimes it's worse and sometimes it's barely there. Always seems worse when bladder is full and is deffo aggravated by caffeine (but I love tea!!). But I need to wee CONSTANTLY. It's driving me mad! About 20mins after a wee, I need to go again! Envy

OP posts:
sunshine05 · 22/03/2018 14:38

That's what mine feels like. Sometimes it's barely there but I can still feel some pain. And yeah the needing to wee all the time is SO frustrating. I have managed to stretch to an hour the last few days which at least meant I could go to the hairdressers today and didn't have to use the loo till she'd finished cutting my hair!

Ickyockycocky · 22/03/2018 22:43

Do let us know how you get on. I’m pleased you are being seen quickly.

TeaMuncher · 23/03/2018 21:14

Feel shit tonight. They can't bring my scan forward, despite being classed as an 'emergency' now, so I've still got 3 weeks to wait. My blood test today was postponed until Tues. and the pain is back with a vengeance Sad Feel very low, anxious, worried and stressed. Not good.

OP posts:
sunshine05 · 23/03/2018 21:21

oh hugs that's rubbish. How can it be classed as an emergency if you have to wait 3 weeks?? I had my blood test today- have to wait till weds to hear. They said they'd call if there are any issues so I'm a bit nervous about my phone ringing...

I hope the pain eases. Is there no way they can bring it fwd if you keep bugging them? Go in there and demand it, say you're really down, desperate??

TeaMuncher · 23/03/2018 21:31

Its just a rubbish system here. The 'referrals' bit is miles away and deals with the whole county's referrals. So even though my scan status was expedited, they still don't have any slots til 09/04 Sad GP did say that if things got worse, she'd call the gynaecologist and get me referred to them. But of course it's the weekend! And you can't be ill at the weekend! Will try on Monday I think.

OP posts:
sunshine05 · 24/03/2018 18:20

that is rubbish! I'm thinking of going to the doc on Monday though don't know what he can do. I'm getting urethral pain now and it's really getting me down Sad

TeaMuncher · 24/03/2018 20:09

Urgh!! @sunshine05 I think we need to just keep on at them. I'm going to call my doc I think and ask advice coz she seemed genuinely concerned when I saw her. Perhaps the gynaecologist is the way to go. I had some tight jeggings on today and my whole left side now kills! So strange. Also need to wee 2/3 times an hour... SadSadSad

sunshine05 · 25/03/2018 08:59

Yeah I had the same problem- skinny jeans- I had to take them off and put my joggers on in the end. I had a cup of tea yesterday afternoon and then was weeing every 10 mins for an hour, then it calmed down again. Strangely my reaction to tea is worse than coffee??

I stumbled upon Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. Have you heard of it? I found a thread where someone had similar symptoms to us and she said they found her bladder and urethra were being squashed by her pelvic floor muscles as they were too tight, You can have too loose or too tight PF muscles that can cause all sorts of pelvic pain and problems. Have you had children? I've had 3 and have a mild prolapse so I know my PF isn't great. I'm definitely going to mention this to the gynae. I did go to physio a few years ago due to bladder irritation and they told me to do PF exercises. Then it went away again. I'm going to email the gynae's secretary and see if they have any cancellations this week, and see the doc tomorrow. You're right we need to keep on at them- demand a scan.

TeaMuncher · 25/03/2018 20:33

I definitely have a reaction to tea too. Which is a problem because, as my name suggests, I'm a total addict! Trying to switch between decaf and normal but weeing a lot. It's so annoying because I've always been fine drinking tea (I have IBS, I'm wheat intolerant, can't drink alcohol or eat chocolate because of migraines, so caffeine is my last vice!).

I'm calling the GP tomo. I've often wondered about PF (I have 2 x kids, the youngest is 16mo but born by CS). Sometimes think it could be connected to CS too. But then I keep coming back to the original UTI so it must be bladder related... Hmm

TeaMuncher · 29/03/2018 19:47

Blood tests all clear my end (phew!). Now just the (long) wait for the scan. My symptoms have been much more manageable for the past couple of days, now just the migraine to deal with Envy

GP mentioned about anxiety causing this. I really hate when they do that. I know how crippling anxiety can be and how it can manifest itself physically but THIS IS NOT ANXIETY. Angry

@TeaMuncher I know it’s been months since this post but I stumbled upon this on a google search and I wanted to see what your results were. I’m having the same symptoms and have an appointment tomorrow. If you see this, I’d love to hear your experience!

IceniSky · 07/12/2018 19:15

I'd be interested too as I have a dull ache and stabbing pain over left ovary that comes and goes.

Alexandria1 · 26/12/2018 17:00

Experiencing very similar pain, at the lower front, lt's located more on the left side nearly like an ovarian pain. it gets better when I go for a wee but gets a bit painful to push the wee out or have a poo. No cysts present or endometriosis as had a scan recently after having miscarriage at the beginning of the month. Got a little bit of cream/yellowish discharge but I don't think it has anything to do with pain.

Has anyone managed to solve the problem and get rid of the pain?
