Is sleep ever a bad sign?

Just wondering whether unusual amounts of sleep are ever a cause for concern? 5mo DD1 has had a nasty cold since Thursday, with a temperature off/on and has now been asleep since 3pm. DH and I have tried to wake her several times, and each time she has opened her eyes and smiled/cried briefly then dosed off again. This is very unusual as she is a light sleeper at the best of times and never naps for more than an hour at a time. Is this just her little body trying to get over the virus or should I worry?

Does she have a temperature?

Whenever DS1 is Ill and is at home with DH, DH makes DS1 sleep much of the day which does fight off the cold/virus quicker.

She doesn't have a temperature now thankfully. I know I'm just being a paranoid first time mum and if it was DH sleeping a lot I wouldn't worry!

It's hard though - when DS was weeny, he slept for about 18 hours straight and I eventually cried down the phone until the midwife came and checked him over. She still said he was fine until she took his temperature and he was then rushed into hospital with suspected meningitis
But the temperature turned out to be the indicator something was wrong so if your DD's is fine then enjoy the peace!
