Why can’t I handle my drink anymore?

I’m 44 and have never been a big drinker probably go out every 6 weeks and hardly ever drink in the house, but when I did go out I could drink 6-8 drinks no problem. The last 2 times I’ve been out I’ve had three drinks and have felt ill once I’ve got home and all the following day

What’s that all about? Right now I feel that rubbish that I’m considering going teetotal but I don’t really want to as I’d miss it

I found my tolerance for alcohol decreased with age. I imagine as you age your body becomes less efficient at processing the alcohol, so hangovers happen with less alcohol and last longer. In my 20s, I'd be fine by midday - in my 40s, a hangover lasts more like 2 days Sad. The only answer is to be careful - drinking slowly helps, and alternating with a soft drink, and having some food while drinking. Drink plenty of water before going to sleep.

Is it wine you have a problem with? My friends and I have discovered that as we hit perimenopause age we couldn't tolerate wine any more. So we drink gin now!

First time was lager and nothing substantial to eat, last night was a horrible Long Island iced tea which put me off another cocktail so ended up with a half a cider then went to an Italian and had a glass of red with a decent amount of pasta and garlic bread

Feel bloated and nauseous urgh
