Could a 3D US and HyCoSy miss an ovarian cyst?

In the past year or so I’ve had a number of fertility tests. These have included (most recently) two 3D internal ultrasounds and a SIS/HyCoSy. My tubes were patent and the dye had no problem getting through and there was lots of spill. I have gone through the images myself with the fertility doctor and he said everything is absolutely fine in there (diagnosis is unexplained infertility).

I always get small niggling pains in my ovaries during my cycle. Not painful but just about noticeable. Then today whilst walking to work, I had a severe pain in my right side (kind of around the ovary/tube area) I have a very high pain threshold but this really took my breath away and lasted about two minutes. Then it went. About 3 hours later, it happened again. Not as painful but still pretty bad, enough that I had to bed over a little to attempt to make it feel less painful. That lasted for about two minutes as well. Then about 5 minutes after that, it came again but not as bad and only lasted a few seconds.

I know these can be characteristics of a burst ovarian cyst but it’s been exactly a month since I had my last 3D US and my HyCoSy both of which showed perfect looking ovaries. Is it possible that either a cyst was there but was somehow missed or that one had formed and burst in the space of a month? I’ve not had the pain again and I’m fine in myself. I just don’t know what else it could have been but I also don’t know if after such intervention up in my ovaries this past month, they could have missed a cyst.

Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated. Even if it’s to tell me I’m not dying.

I 'd say it's highly unlikely that a TVS would not show up a cyst. I have had loads of TVS to look at my ovaries and they are usually easy to see. I'm not sure what you mean by 3D images- - as far as I know the images are 2D. Was this a probe in the vagina?

I've also been told that a burst cyst is agony- an A&E trip pronto! Sounds more like ovulation pain.

Thanks for your reply :) I already ovulated 6 days ago so I know it’s not ovulation pain. But good to know that a burst cyst would be much worse. I’ve not had any pains there since so hopefully it was a one off! The 3D internal US is the same as a 2D one (probe inserted into vagina) but the images are in 3D instead of 2D. It’s just a new technology my fertility clinic uses. The images are a lot clearer than regular US which is why I thought it would probably be unlikely they would miss something like a cyst
