DH has chickenpox ???

DH didn't have chicken pox as a child but he woke up this morning with a temp of 102 and generally felt unwell. He felt much better after taking nurofen and lemsip.
He's been complaining of 'manflu' for a few days and had an annoying cough but has carried on normally with work etc. But this evening he's come out in red spots on

  • his forehead
  • Around his hairline
  • couple on his scalp
  • on the side & base of his neck
  • on his back
  • on his cheeks
  • couple on his chest
  • couple on his legs
He said they don't itch but he has scratched some of them and they have wept a tiny bit. He's been out in the garden demolishing a shed etc today so just thought he had an itch/ tickle from the dirt or flies or that they were just spots so he scratched them - stupid man ... He's been fine this evening but gone up for a shower so I'll have another look in a while. Our 3yo dd has not had chicken pox yet either ! DH works closely with a woman whose daughter has recently had very bad chicken pox. Could he have caught it from the mother ? And, do you think from my description it is chicken pox ?

Could be, if it is they will spread very quickly and you will soon know, adults also tend to be quite ill with chiken pox.
No he couldnt have caught it from the mother but could have caught it rom any number of people who have coughed and spluttered over him in the last couple of weeks.

i had chicken pox at the age of 24, hard to say if thats what it is but if more have come out by tomorrow, they are more like fluid filled blisters than raised lumps, then it could be. if it is, recommend boots own calamine cream, its thicker than lotion so stays on the spots and dries.

I had them at 27.. and I was sooo ill and it took a good three months before I had all my energy back.

They started off as clear blisters which seemed to turn white and then scabby if I remember correctly

At first I thought it was thrush cos it started in my nether regions and mouth first, but by the next morning I was covered!

tepid baths with salt helped a lot.. the spots didn't itch in my case.. they burned!

Definately chicken pox and poor dh is very uncomfortable now. The spots on his face are like big lumps and have started to blister now.
He has them in his hair too which is driving him mad.
We have piriton, eurax cream & paracetamol but he's having trouble sleeping.

Our dd, who is 3, hasn't had chicken pox so I'm assuming she'll probably get it.
Should we stay quarantined until she comes out in spots ? We have nursery, ballet, swimming lessons and a christening to go to so I probably shouldn't go to any of them.
How soon will dd go down with cp (if at all). She has been very grumpy, had a nasty cough and cold recently so I thought she may have ben gearing up for it before dh came out in spots

Poor DH, and poor you! From what I've heard it can be anything up to 3 weeks or so between infection and 'getting' it, but of course there's never any guarantee that DD will get it at all!
Lots of people say it's 2 weeks with their DC's. Not sure about quarantine, as far as I know she won't be contagious until a few days before the spots, which could be 10 days away...others will tell you what to do, my DS hasn't had it yet!
