Sweet cravings, totally out of character!

Not sure if this is in the right place but I am really craving sweet stuff. This has been going on now for about 3 months, I have never been one for sweet food, never have added sugar to cereal or hot drinks, very rarely had a dessert - would much rather have cheese, sometimes not even that!

If I try and avoid the craving it literally gets too much and I cave in and quite literally scoff the lot, I can't stop until it's all gone. it seems to be literally on my mind the whole time.

I am beginning to wonder if I an deficient in something, no idea what mind!

Anyone else?

Deficient in something, or a hormone shift like going on the pill, or menopause, or pregnancy...

Never thought about hormones - can that happen? I'm off to google...

Thanks

Insulin resistance?

owthathurts · 08/03/2018 20:08

I did google insulin resistance but I don't really have many of the symptoms.

I'm not sure if this is related but I am really struggling staying asleep and most nights waking around 3am and starting to feel tired just as it's time to get up so I am getting roughly 4ish hrs sleep a night (I am an 8 hr plus sleeper normally). I am then struggling all day shattered. I try my hardest to keep going and not have a nap in the day.

OP I have EXACTLY the same issues. My biggest problem now is staying asleep and I have joined a new job and really feeling shattered. Also I am getting the sweet cravings more and more. However I had just checked my insulin and it is ok as per GP.

I am 45 and with a 6 month old mirena coil which I had put for heavy periods. Dont have a clue if anything is related or not

Hmm..... I'm 49!

I did wonder whether to go and see GP but worried that they would think I am being a time waster. Thing is I do need the sleep - I'm shattered, and I definitely don't want to eat the sugary food!
