What has taken over my body?!!

I felt fit and healthy all weekend, built snowmen with the kids, cooked a roast on Sunday and did the ironing ready for work on Monday. Around 5pm on Sunday I felt nauseous, but put it down to taking my co-codamol (Ehlers-Danlos sufferer) in an empty stomach. Ate my tea and then asked DH to Bath the kids and crawled into bed. Woke up yesterday feeling awful, not nauseous but joint and muscle pain, sore throat and headache. Not a cold. I stayed in bed all day as it hurt too much to get out and down the stairs. Drank plenty and took otc pain medication and have been quarantined from the children.

Woke up this morning feeling even worse. Everything aches. My back, arms, neck, toes, everything. Throat sore and glands swollen. Temp of 37.9 so not too high. I sat and cried on the bathroom floor willing myself to walk downstairs to the medicine cubpboard. Called work and informed them I wouldn’t be in again and then called the GP surgery and spoke to the nurse. She suspects flu and recommended I stay home, rest, drink fluids and wait for it to pass which seems the most sensible idea. I’ve arranged to speak with them on Friday if I still feel the same.

But, I don’t have any upper respiratory symptoms. Headache and sore throat but (so far) no cough or runny nose. Do you need those to have flu? I am slightly concerned about my neck pain but no other signs of anything sinister (photophobia or rash) so just keeping a close eye. OTC medication keeping temp down but, as soon as 4 hours pass I certainly know about it.

Its taken too long to write this as I keep having to stop and rest my arms as it’s just too painful. I’m laid in bed and just wondering if people think this is the flu? Or does it sound more like some other virus type illness??

It sounds like flu to me.
I hope you feel better soon.

AlishaMary · 06/03/2018 15:06

Sounds like flu to me. Here are symptoms from nhs website;

a sudden fever – a temperature of 38C or above
aching body
feeling tired or exhausted
dry, chesty cough
sore throat
headache
difficulty sleeping
loss of appetite
diarrhoea or tummy pain
nausea and being sick

hugoagogo · 06/03/2018 15:08

Yeah sounds like flu or similar. Defining characteristic of flu ime is that it comes ones on fast and starts with sore throat.Snot, cough and so on will probably kick in after a few days.

JessieMcJessie · 06/03/2018 15:10

It was sepsis awareness week last week, please google it just to check none of your symptoms match that.

StinkyMcgrinky · 06/03/2018 15:12

Thanks all who have responded to my ramblings. When I told DH the nurse suspected flu he said “but you don’t have a cough...” but I’m glad that that may be yet to come hugo

I feel so pathetic, never been bed ridden with anything other than pancreatitis. Thank god for Netflix and the iPad. (And, of course, my lovely DH for taking full control of the children)

Sounds like flu or other similar virus. Go to bed if you can and wait it out.

StinkyMcgrinky · 06/03/2018 15:15

Thanks Jessie I’ll be sensible and keep an eye on things closely. I know to ring 111/999 if anything susicious develops

You didn't cut yourself in the garden, did you?

Lisette40 · 06/03/2018 15:18

Sorry, just saw sore throat. Probably flu, though I'm not medical.

kinorsam · 06/03/2018 15:18

Strep?

TheFillijonk · 06/03/2018 15:20

Poor you stinky. Get well soon.

BlooBagoo · 06/03/2018 15:54

Whenever I've had the flu it's been just as you describe, rarely get a cough/sore throat etc but get everything else and can barely move to even go to the bathroom.

The NHS website talking about flu symptoms says, "They usually include fever, chills, headaches and aching muscles. You can often get a cough and sore throat." Usually and often are the key words there, you'll maybe have only some symptoms, but doesn't mean it isn't flu. If anything changes then definitely call 111 but sounds like you're doing all you can for now.

Flowers for you, hope you're feeling better soon, being ill is bad enough without other conditions so make sure you rest up as much as possible and make sure DH continues to do all the work for now. Wink

Lifeaback · 06/03/2018 15:58

There does seem to be some nasty flu strains going round at the moment so fingers crossed it's just that, but I second keeping a close eye on any changes (I'm very paranoid about sepsis though!) hope you feel better soon Flowers

StinkyMcgrinky · 06/03/2018 16:01

Thanks all Flowers I have read all links and made sure I know what to look out for. I have also sent them over to DH who now thinks he’s in an episode of ER and is asking me to check my heart rate and he will “....check for rashes when he gets home”. The glamour and passion is just too much Wink

draylon that’s a good diagnostic tool. At this moment I wouldn’t get out of bed for £20, even if it was a naked George Clooney holding it. I’ve tried to decide if DS1s potty would be big enough to prevent me having to go to the bathroom.... a low point of my life thus far.

I’ve had similar symptoms but not as severe.
Ok Sat took the kids sleighing.
Sat test time realised my throat was sore when I swallowed.
Woke up Sunday morning with a bit of a sore throat. Temperature got higher, didn’t come down much with pain meds. Bones felt weary & sore, was shivering constantly and just generally felt crap. Sunday night was not good. Hardly slept at all. Monday my fever seemed to break. And I slept a good chunk of the day.
Felt a bit better today but throat still sore, neck sore although not stiff and my head feels funny.

No cough or runny nose. Do have a bit of phlegm but then i suffer from that most of the time anyway.

Felt queasy earlier too.

Back a bit sore at times too.

Have been coping today with painkillers although letting them wear off now so I can see how I really feel. Throat getting sore again and feel pressure in my ears.

Don’t think it can be full blown flu with me as I am getting better to quickly - but more than a cold.

I have been wondering about strep throat but no white spots on my tonsils that I can see.

Get well soon!
