Chafing on period post birth repair

Help! I had an operation to repair an episiotomy that didn’t heal properly. Op was a year ago. Ever since, when I get my period, everything chafes down there - the skin feels wrong, possibly because a little bit of it is internal skin now on outside.

It feels like I need to air it all, but can’t on period.

I usually use pads, have tried washable ones but the bulk of them makes it worse. Don’t have very heavy period and don’t like using a menstrual cup. I have one that fits ok and I liked it for 2/3 cycles but it’s not something I get on with.

Any other things I could try? Would creams help or make it worse?

Where is the chafing? After I had ds2, I got terrible rashes just slightly between my bum cheeks from the large pads. I started using breast pads instead, obviously they need changing more often but being small they did the job.

That’s an interesting idea, thanks Naice. It’s sort of front to back this time, entire. But usually just entrance to vagina and in between cheeks like you say
Why would childbirth do this?!
