dd has liquid in ear. GP shut, just wondering what peoples thoughts were on whether to go to gp at hosp. She is fine in self. she has a runny nose and top teeth are coming through and we had a bit of a rash earlier in the week. Dont want to go to hosp unnecessarily, but also dont want it to get really bad. Any advive for an indecisive mum?

what do you mean by liquid in ear?

is there something seeping out?

mummynumnum · 05/05/2007 07:54

There is an unclear liquid seeping out. Not all the time, but every so often. She is full of beans in self though. It is just unusual for her.

sounds like she's burst an eardrum .. has she previously been in pain / had high temp?.. although its normally a coloured discharge denoting an infection which may need antibiotics .. it will heal over naturally though

with no other symptoms I'd probably leave it till GP on monday

Twiglett · 05/05/2007 07:59

oh you said unclear .. yellowy-green? could be waxy?

mummynumnum · 05/05/2007 08:03

It is a pale greeny/yellow so couyld be waxy. Will perhaps leave fort a bit and see how we go, as she seems fine! Thanks for advice.

yellow-green probably waxy .. think she's had a middle ear infection and the eardrum has burst under the pressure (sounds awful but is natural) and the infection is seeping out .. she'll need antibiotics probably

DS had a burst eardrum recently, we went in to him because he was crying in the night, and there was pus and blood all over his pillow, I completely freaked, thought he'd had a brain haemorrhage or something

I took him to A&E and was told the other eardrum was infected too and might burst too, given antibiotics and told not to worry, it would clear up easily, which it did. He 's had a couple of other mild ear infections since but nothing serious.

I would take her to your GP personally, unless she is screaming in agony.

Gp not open till Tues, so will see how we go. Thanks for all the advice.
