I was cutting DD's hair today and found about 6 eggs attached to hairs, but no actual crawlies - do I need to treat her?

yes. they will hatch

littlemissbossy · 03/05/2007 20:43

damp her hair, smother it with hair conditioner and comb through thoroughly with a fine nit type comb
do this every day for at least 1 week
IME this is the best way without the need for chemicals that don't always work anyway

Astrophe · 03/05/2007 20:44

Oh, I took them out - pulled out the hairs. I seem to recall somone telling me that often eggs are actually empty (already hatched) and if no crawlies then they have probably been and gone. Wishful thinking?

the empty shells will stay stuck to hair, but v. unlikely the lice would up and leave. Do some very thorough wet combing with a nit comb and check back every day, if you don't want to use chemicals

This happened to me with ds

he never had a louse on his head, just empty eggs

guess whose head they all went to?

Astrophe · 03/05/2007 20:51

F&Z you are making me itchy!
Guess I will pay boots a visit tomorrow.

I agree nit combing on wet hair with conditioner and nitty gritty, don't use chemicals

repeat every 3 days for at least 2 weeks or as long as it takes

check everyone in house by combing in this way, NOT on dry hair as lice run from light and movement. You will see them on the comb after the conditioner has temporarily slowed them down

good luck

You can get a nit comb called nitty gitty, they have a web site. www.nittygritty.co.uk
This comb is brill it gets the eggs out, which a lot of the other don't.It costs alot £9.99 but comes with a life time guarentee and is worth every penny.
