I don't know if anybody can give me any advice really. We have found out that our friend has mouth cancer. On monday when hubby took him to the hospital he was told he would need a op to remove bottom jaw and tongue, this would give him a 30% chance of a cure. Then after more test cancer was found on his lungs. Now he is going to have chemo and radiotheapy instead. Our friends think this is better and that it will keep the cancer away,i'm not so sure.I think i need to know so i can surport them the best i can.I don't think they are really taking things in.The chemo was going to start on monday but it's bank holiday so its now going to be tuesday. He will have to spend a week in hospital for this first stage. We have never been thought this before so don't know what is going to happen. But i do know they are going to need us has they have noone else.

God, how awful...I don't know anything about cancer but wanted to answer you anyway. There are lots of MNers who have experience of this horrid disease and can tell you more about what to expect.
Wish you all the best xx

I can understand what you're going through. Last year a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer and as soon as I could I broke down in tears.

She had the chemo followed by removing the lump (I know differenct in your case) then the radiotherapy. Happily she is now in remission and all the signs are good.

If you have any questions its better to ask your friend as they will be getting the best advice from his doctor, looking on the internet may just freak you out. Also she hated any kind of sympathy and just wanted to be treated as normal.

I don;t know if any of that helps but I hope all goes well for your friend.

Thanks everybody for your replies. At the moment i don't know how much they are really taking in.I would of thought because it has spread to his lungs this was a bad sign.Maybe i'm wrong,i hope to god i am.I can't get it out of my head that if he didn't have the op he only had 4-5 mths left. Now they seem to have changed their minds and the chemo ect is going to kill the cancer,or so my friend thinks.
