Excruciating stomach pain after birth

I gave birth 2 days ago and have been doing very well physically. However I just went for a 2 minute walk which includes a staircase and since I've come back I've developed an excruciating pain in my stomach especially on the right side. It literally feels like someone is squeezing my insides together. Anyone have any advice? Should I don't triage or GP? My baby is going to need changing soon and I'd getting grumbly but I can't stand or walk without being in alot of pain Sad

Call the labour ward for advice. The number should be on your notes.

It may well be nothing but it is definitely sensible to get it checked out.

If it feels crampy, it could be afterpains -.the pain of your uterus contracting back to its previous size. It was excruciating after I has DC1.

MrsJoshDun · 23/02/2018 15:54

Are you passing urine ok?

ClaireFraser · 23/02/2018 15:55

Could be afterpains where your uterus is contracting back down. A horrible post partum bit that often gets neglected in all the books. Was a real shock for me first time round.

Call your midwife if you're worried though. I called mine for no end of things after both DC and they were always happy to help and to reassure me.

I have already been experiencing cramping which I assumed was normal but this has come on so suddenly almost straight after I walked up stairs, it's making me feel sick

@mrsjosh yes, I've been passing quite alot thankfully! This has just come on so suddenly and intensely, like a really bad stitch

My afterpains were horrendous, but you can't guess at what it is. Definitely ring the labour ward.

MrsJoshDun · 23/02/2018 16:02

Yep, ring up.
