Have totally lost the other thread so if everyone would like to say hello here, old and new....encourage the newbies to stop and the old ones to rant about how it will get easier

you're right i'll try and watch today. off to do some painting. is it ok to watch with kids around? no blackened lungs? my ds(13) is the only one to nag me at home, and he's stepping up a gear with me - he looks disgusted when i light up. smoking is such a trap. i've been on your thread nearly a year now .

charliecat · 07/05/2007 10:48

No black lungs, its ok, but possibly embarrasing that your having to watch such SHITE to help you.
I hope your ds never picks up a fag in his life xxxxx

hi cc watched the video. it's brilliant. will have to watch a few more times for it to really sink in. think it will do the trick ..

charliecat · 08/05/2007 20:39

southeastastra · 08/05/2007 20:47

i watched video at 9 this morning and didn't touch one until 1ish then i cracked . tommorow i'll pause it when he tells you to go back to the beginning he is very persuasive

charliecat · 08/05/2007 21:13

He is, I found I couldnt settle to have a fag ever again, I felt time was ticking till I gave up myself and I just had to muster the strenght..eventually I did.
I began to watch people smoking and see the digust as they inhaled, they didnt even realise they were doing it, but they were...as was I!!!
I have watched it many times BTW But it sinks in...slowly but surely.
and whyquit.com too, for extra brain ammunition.
If you recognise all the feelings and madness that goes with stopping smoking youve half way won the battle.
The other half is doing anything but smoking.
So pleased youve watched the vid

i sound bad don't i 9 until 1 isn't that long is it

i'm glad you said you'd seen it loads of times, sometimes i feel if i can't stop after seeing it once, or reading the book once i've failed. which is ridiculous really.

i especially liked the smoky background and the way he sometimes leant forward to talk been back on whyquit too.

charliecat · 08/05/2007 21:48

It is if you smoke every 25 minute like I used to....
This is a long journey this caper, slowly and surely we will get you there

Finally found this thread.

I am planning to give up.. i don't think i can just suddenly quit i am gonna have to make a date and get it into my head. Have just spent the last hour looking at the nhs smoking website and whyquit.com recommended by charliecat, who's been nagging me for years since she did. The memory of her smoking is becoming fainter and fainter.

I want to quit...i need to quit and i should quit. But i have spent the last 13 years smoking that's shocking isnt' it?? i don't wanna spent the next 13 years puffing away. It's getting more and more difficult to smoke places and you can see people looking at you like dirt cause your smoking or is that me being paranoid? I don't want my kids to smoke.

All my family have quit apart from my dad and step mum. My mum gave up years ago...my step dad smoked for 30 years and got hypnotised and stopped. I am the silly fool that's still puffing away and the more people tell me tos top the more i want to smoke. but they'll be the ones laughing when i say 'oh i got cancer' if only i stopped smoking years ago. I think i'm talking rubbish now but...i need to do this soon other wise idon't think i ever will. Wish me luck post on tommorow let you konw the date of my quit.

lyrabelacqua · 30/05/2007 22:51

Is anyone else on the nicotine gum? i've been on it on and off since new year (in between i've been smoking cigarettes )
I've found they've helped me cut down but not stop altogether.
I've given up twice before (both pregnancies) but then I had a fantastic incentive not to slip up.
DS2 asked me today if I'd been outside for a cigarette when i kissed him .
I NEED to stop, and soon before my boys get the message that it's ok to smoke because mummy does it.
what methods have worked for everyone else?

Aloveheart · 31/05/2007 10:25

I don't know but i wish you luck.

Allen carr is meant to be good, whyquit.com.

My quit day is the 4th of June when the kids are back at school .

lyrabelacqua · 31/05/2007 21:29

Thanks aloveheat, and good luck to you too.
Good news about the quit smoking pill soon to be available on the NHS. Maybe i'll just wait till then

Aloveheart · 31/05/2007 22:04

oh i have heard of someone on that and he smoked like a chimney and stopped really quickly.

I am gonna go cold turkey i think. my kids are gonna make posters for the house as it will be a non smoking house come the 4th june.

lyrabelacqua · 31/05/2007 22:08

oooh, cold turkey. Very brave! How many do you smoke per day? I'm only on 4 or 5 which doesn't sound a lot but I just can't break it, especially when dp stresses me out.

Aloveheart · 31/05/2007 22:09

hell oof alot more than that, over 20 i reckon. i roll my own most of the time. it's creeping up more and more all the time. I am fed up of it controlling my life all the time.. but it's gonna be hard to break it but i really really wanna do it.

lyrabelacqua · 31/05/2007 22:16

Might be worth having some nicotine gum at the ready just in case, for when the craving gets too much. Better to reach for the gum than the fag.
the gum is really effective (i forget about cigarettes completely when I've had a piece) but for some reason it doesn't make me give up completely. I guess I'm lacking in willpower.

Aloveheart · 01/06/2007 09:13

yeah i'll think about that, or I might just have some chewing gum. I'm getting nerves at the thought but know i've got to do it iyswim. Smoking has been a big part of my life and I can't remember when i didn't smoke. that's terrible.

Aloveheart · 04/06/2007 11:38

right well it'd day 1 for me, suffering isn't the work, i'e already gone through a whole packet of chewing gum. But i am pleased that i got out the door this morning to school with some umph as usally i can't do anything before i've had a coffee and a smoke, but i had a bath got kids done and off we went. Keeps popping in my head to smoke, and i'm feeling very irratable too!! Wish i never started smoking the evil weed. god.
