Purple-ish spots on legs for over 6 months?

Hi wise Mumsnetters

I got what I thought was a bite on my leg in the summer, however more have appeared since then and haven't gone down, so I doubt it was ever a bite. They're quite purple in colour, not itchy just unsightly. All round and various sizes, first pic is the biggest (and this was the first one I noticed). Only on the front and back of my lower legs. Any thoughts? I get my legs waxed around every 8-10 weeks but have never had a problem with reaction (excuse the current leg hair!).

I would say ingrown hairs, they can take a while to get rid of too. Exfoliating lots between waxes will help and salicylic acid helps as well, would mention it to them when you go for your next wax and ask their advice.

Could be, they're quite flat whereas ingrown hairs I've had previously are more like a spot/bump. I shall exfoliate away and hopefully they'll go down! Thanks!

It could be cutaneous mastocytosis. If so the marks don't go away. With me they appear as rather itchy bumpy hives which when they go down leave a brownish mark. I think if you rub one of the old marks and it goes bumpy again then that's a positive sign of it. It is fairly rare in adults so a GP may not recognise it but a dermatologist would. It's fairly harmless and not much can be done about it but there are triggers which are different for different people. For me it is heat and particularly going from extreme cold to extreme heat.
