Some of us have been here a while and others have only just joined. If you're lurking, feel free to say hello. We are quite friendly really.

You are welcome to join us, whatever sort of cancer you have, or if you're waiting for tests to find out whether you have cancer or not (we hope not!)

Our previous thread is here. Do check it out if you're new as there's lots of useful information in the first few posts.

Best wishes to everyone who finds themselves here Flowers

I did an Economics degree and work as an Economist. People often ask me financial advice and anything going on elsewhere in the world in any sector. 😂

ILoveDolly · 17/03/2018 22:08

Hey @Freddie Vietnam sounds great. I did look into that insurance company and I'm still hoping to get to Japan eventually. We are going to go skiing in April lol actually my bad skiing is more of a risk than the cancer at the moment..... I think it might be a good idea to start some fitness regime tho......

penguinsandpandas · 17/03/2018 22:17

DS just came up and said Mummy I've come to see if you are any better now, bless him. Looked at my hands and said Mummy what's happened to your hands they are blue. That's 2 failed cannulas. Having uti symptoms so taking some 3 day antibiotics I had hidden, I will be in trouble with my doctor but 111 wouldn't let me see anyone and can't see it can do much harm. I asked my husband and he said go for it and he's a doctor, just not a medical one.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 18/03/2018 14:30

Dolly sounds like you've got a few adventures lined up! Good luck with the skiing :)

penguins ugh cannula bruises can be so sore. I hope they heal up quickly. And I hope your UTI symptoms have improved Flowers economics seems very interesting

I hope everyone's having a good day. I'm lazing around in my pyjamas still!

penguinsandpandas · 18/03/2018 15:23

Have a lovely lazy day Leslie Just having a lazy day here too, DH made us sunday lunch and lemon tart.

The bruises aren't sore, they just look really bad, about 2 inches on 1 hand and one inch on the other.

Love to everyone.

Rtpx · 18/03/2018 20:07

Evening ladies, I’ve been lurking ... Blush

I’m 27 years old and recently (couple of weeks ago) found a breast lump .. I put it to the back of my mind by accidentally brushed it again on Friday (that’s how noticible it is now) and spiralled into panic mode .. safe to say I have NOT been googling responsibly Sad

I’ve had a cyst before, years ago, and this lump feels completely different to that one .. it has all of the typically suspicious characteristics (hard, tethered/fixed/immobile, irregular shape, painless).

I feel sick with worry .. I have a 7 month old daughter who is my whole entire world, and I am hers !

Feel guilty for posting about the what ifs when it’s all so real for all of you ladies but you’re just sooooooooooo supportive to one another. Flowers

penguinsandpandas · 18/03/2018 20:56

Sorry to hear that Rtpx and hope it turns out to be nothing, think 8 out of 10 are benign and your age is definitely on your side decreasing the odds again.

I would get it checked out but I would imagine it will be fine and even in the worst case scenario there's lots of good treatment and ladies here to support you. Just enjoy your little girl and try to put it to the back of your mind again, easier said than done I know. I am only waiting to but found when I assumed I had cancer with first test I was a nervous wreck, for this one I am assuming its clear and I am pretty calm. Hope its nothing.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 18/03/2018 21:26

Welcome Rtpx, but sorry you've got this to worry about. Even better than that, it's 9 out of 10 that are benign. The odds are very much in your favour, but that doesn't make it any less scary. You obviously need to get it checked. But in the meantime, stop Googling! :)

Waving to everyone else. I hope you're having a relaxing evening.

I am off to the hospital first thing tomorrow for some exciting anticoagulant blood tests!

OP posts:
WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 18/03/2018 21:27

Oh and no need to feel guilty, the thread is for anyone who either has cancer or is waiting for cancer-related tests. The fears while you're waiting are the same whether you get good or bad news! We all understand that :)

OP posts:
WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 18/03/2018 22:32

TQ good luck with tomorrow's scan if I don't get a chance to post in the morning. I hoe all goes smoothly and that the roads are nice and clear for you :)

Goodnight lacies

OP posts:
likeazebra · 18/03/2018 22:44

Goodnight Leslie it's good to hear you sounding much better. I hope you are feeling it!

Good luck for your scan TQ I hope it goes well.

Rtpx please see your doctor soon and try not to google, I know it's hard!

Penguins hope you are feeling better now, good news it's not cancer I'm really pleased for you.

To everyone else I hope you are all keeping in good spirits and staying warm in this horrible weather.

Everything has come at once here with me seeing the surgeons about my thyroid this week, they are now calling it a mass on correspondence rather than a nodule so don't know if they have more clue but are querying metastasis from my bowel tumour. My daughter has her suspicious lesion removed next week so hoping for good results and nothing nasty for that.

penguinsandpandas · 18/03/2018 22:48

Goodnight Leslie Sleep tight and don't let those koalas and wombats bite. 🐨🐗
🐧🐼

penguinsandpandas · 18/03/2018 22:55

Thanks Likeazebra I have no idea what those terms mean but hoping its as good as it can be for you and your daughter.

Had some big pains but taken codamol and its much better, now off to sleep, goodnight everybody.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 19/03/2018 07:03

likeazebra fingers firmly crossed for your daughter's lump being harmless. And I have no useful suggestions about the thyroid lump. Hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing too Flowers will you get the results this week?

penguins I hope you had a comfortable night :)

I'm about to drag myself out of bed. Horrid weather. Stay warm everyone Brew

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 19/03/2018 10:02

Morning all from the clear, bright, but freezing North West
MrsRhod any update on whether your surgery will be going ahead?
LittleGrey great news on the MRI. Hope the chemo can go ahead soon.
Penguins how are things today?
Mysillydog I am pleased the rads are having a positive effect.
Hope the scan goes ok today TQ. Leslie hope your appointment goes smoothly and you're back in the warm soon!
ILoveDolly where will you be skiing? I have always fancied a snow holiday but my acute malcoordination is holding me back from skiing.
Rtpx I am also undergoing tests currently, and this thread is indeed amazingly supportive, informative and grounding. Thanks again all for having me and getting me through the wait Flowers.

penguinsandpandas · 19/03/2018 10:41

Hope the blood test went well Leslie and how are you feeling?

I had a good sleep after the codamol and am back to working from home today, told them I don't feel up to coming in tomorrow and they are fine to let me wfh all week. Bit of pain this morning but better than last night so back to ibuprofen and antibiotics.

Turn Hope you are OK and hope the MRI comes back clear.

Impressed with your spreadsheet Leslie Good luck with the scan TQ, copying Leslie and not organised enough to have own spreadsheet. Grin

I forgot to ask when the biopsy will be back but they said they think it will be clear and appointment in 2 months so presume if I don't hear within say 2 weeks it must be clear. I think last time I had this results in 48 hours (clear). It's the same fibroid they are biopsying as last time and it shrank from over 3 inches to 2cms so can't see it can be anything but clear. The new one they can't reach as its in muscle but its small.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 19/03/2018 10:57

I don't really have a spreadsheet yet Grin

TheTurn waiting sucks. I'm glad you're finding it helpful to be here. Waving from the probably not quite so cold south!

penguins hopefully they'll at least write to your GP with the results so you don't have to wait until your appointment. Good that you're able to WFH and I hope that you stay comfortable Flowers

I've had the first bit of my blood test and I have to go back later for another one :) at least the roads are clear so we risked coming home in between - wasn't looking forward to loitering at the hospital for four hours!

TwitterQueen1 · 19/03/2018 12:43

Hello all
Leslie were the tests exciting? Hope it all goes OK.

My CT scan was exciting because it was in my local hospital and not 20 miles down the road (although tbh, 20 miles isn't that far), and everything was shiny and new. There was a very tasteful lightbox image (not a stuck-on-the-ceiling poster) of looking upwards to the sky through green, leafy trees. If I were to be really picky I would prefer a moving view of waves lapping a beach, with audio. Smile

2 goes to get the cannula working, but because it's in the elbow it's never as bad as the back-of-the-hand jobs. And the dye went into the right place, which is always a good thing. Results next week.

nickyplustwo · 19/03/2018 13:05

Hi everyone
So nice to read lots of people having good news this week.

TQ glad the scan was ok, fingers crossed for good results. The poster above my scanner very definitely needs changing up!
rtpx sorry you find yourself here - I would definitely get it checked out. Wondering and worrying is much worse than knowing - and 9/10 is good odds! Lots of people here to give you a virtual hand-hold while you wait for results.
I second leslie on the chest port - I have one and it has been a complete godsend for me. Happy to answer any qs about it.
Good luck for the op mrsrhod - I hope you make it over the line for the bp this time.
Just had another ascites drain and they're now talking about putting in a permanent PleurX drain so it can be managed at home. Does anyone lurking have any experience of these?
LittleGrey - is it you who is neutropenic? Do they give you gcsf injections 1 day after chemo to boost your wbc? They really helped maintain my levels - just a thought in case you hadn't been offered them yet.
love to everyone else x

purpleunicorns · 19/03/2018 15:30

Hello everyone, back again (although I've never really left, I'm still lurking and checking up to see how everyone doing) Smile

I've just got back from a Look Good Feel Better workshop, it lasted for an hour and a half and they went through ways to apply makeup. Definitely worth going to if anyone gets the chance, you also get a free bag of stuff. Here's what was in mine

Crack open the wine... it's CANCER SUPPORT THREAD 61!
mrsrhodgilbert · 19/03/2018 15:56

Hi, thanks for asking, my surgery is tomorrow. Blood pressure has been coming down nicely with new meds. I'm down for afternoon surgery and then home in the evening, I'm a bit wary of travelling back so soon after a general anaesthetic though.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 19/03/2018 16:24

mrsrhod I'm so pleased it's still planned :) good news about your BP too

purple looks like a great haul!

nicky the permanent option sounds interesting. Are you in the Shine Facebook group? There's a few people in there with ascites so might be someone with experience if no luck here!

TQ yay for local scan. And Envy at posters and light boxes! Mine hust has polystyrene ceiling tiles... I'm glad the cannulation wasn't too traumatic

My blood test was vaguely exciting. I don't usually go to the phlebotomy department. And I got to push to the front as it was referred by a haematologist.

More excitingly my slightly painful ear just leaked lots of gunge so I'm off to the GP in a bit! Oh the joys of chemo Grin

OP posts:
penguinsandpandas · 19/03/2018 16:34

Mrshrod Glad to hear your blood pressure is down enough for surgery - hope it goes as well as it can. Mine was at 4.30pm, I wasn't too pleased with the time either, not eating in the day hmpf and home in the dark but I did get given the option of overnight so hopefully if you aren't feeling up to going home they will let you stay. Suspect it was the NHS slot in a private hospital.

Purple I thought you had photographed your meds at first Shock Glad to see its nice stuff.

Leslie That was good of your hospital to split the blood tests up for 4 hours Hmm, hopefully you got chance to do your 200 lengths of the pool plus an hours trampolining in. I of course did the same, haven't been working from home in my bed and sleeping most of day.

Love to everyone else.

penguinsandpandas · 19/03/2018 16:37

Sorry to hear about your ear Leslie.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 19/03/2018 16:54

My hospital actually has a small lake. Bracing, in this weather. Good for the circulation...
