HAYFEVER IN CHILDREN

DD - age 7 - has had a really irritating night time cough now for almost two weeks. She has also been constantly sniffing day and night - we keep on at her that it's bad manners to sniff and that she must blow her nose. She is getting frustrated as she tries to blow her nose and it doesn't clear.
Thinking about it today I'm wondering whether or not she could possibly be suffering from hayfever. Looks like a trip to the doctors is on the cards.
Anyone else's chidren suffer and what do you do to ease their symptoms please?

My charge suffers from really bad hayfever plus many other allergies. Piritron (or however it's spelt ) seems to do the trick with her.

ds1 age 13 started the night time cough aged 2 - he was diagnosed as asthmatic. It's a classic symptom, even without any wheezing.

He does get hayfever which is greatly relieved by over the counter remedies - try Benadryl syrup as it's non drowsy.

Piriton is good at bedtime but it can cause drowsiness during the day.

Thanks for the medication tips. Do you think a trip to GP to confirm is going to be worthwhile?
I know what the docs are like when kids are little. "Calpol and plenty of fluids, blah blah blah".

I'd try Piriton at bedtime for now and keep your fingers crossed that the cough goes away. I think ds1 had his about 6 weeks before I took him to the gp & she said it was asthma. Unfit mother, aren't I?

Sparkler1 · 30/04/2007 23:36

I didn't realise she's been like it for nearly two weeks until DH said. Unfit mother alert here too.
