GPs surgery releasing some results but not others

Had 11 blood tests done and told all results came back today in batches - probably 3 batches as 3 vials of blood.

The results line would only release 5 satisfactory results to me and wouldn't release the other 6. It's a specialist line, think something like a specialist nurse.

All she will say is others say doctor needs to comment. Does this mean these results aren't normal? Thanks. Kidney, liver bone calcium cholesterol are the OK group - would these have been tested together. 6 awaiting include FSH, vitamin D, FBC, thyroid and 2 others. Thanks very much.

I've had these worries before - sometimes it just means the doctor is the officially trained eye and needs to look before they say 'all ok' - just to cover their backs so receptionists / nurses aren't interpreting which works both ways as otherwise it's on the nurses to deliver the news good or bad! Easy for me to say but don't worry until you know further x

I think if they give people results, a lot of people start googling and panicking before the Dr has even reviewed them.

My surgery wont give results to patients at all. They either say its fine (after the Drs said so), or the Dr calls you or asks you to make an appointment so they can explain then to you if theres an issue.

Thanks very much. I've got the doctor telephoning me back now at 6.10pm so will find out that. Am panicking a bit as doctor said he would be able to tell if I have cancer from the results but don't know which ones would tell him and he probably wouldn't tell me anyway just send me for more tests.

What did the doctor say? Lots of people are low in vitamin D, I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of it! Hopefully nothing more serious!

PenguinsandPandas · 05/02/2018 18:48

Thanks for asking - iron and kidney function are low, not sure why I was told it was normal before. Iron is just borderline low. Blood sugar is normal, thyroid is normal.

FBC, vit D, LH and FSH they think have been lost. FBC has definitely been lost which is frustrating as that was the key one. Strange though as nurse reckoned all 11 were back but they only took 3 lots of blood so likely a whole group was lost. Doctor says he's expecting a problem with FBC.

Oh that's annoying. Will you have to redo them? How do they lose bloods. 🙃

PenguinsandPandas · 05/02/2018 19:21

Yes doctor said will need redoing. The FBC was the key one he was waiting for I think. He said they sent a note saying they were very sorry but they know they received my blood but they lost it. He doesn't know if they've lost FSH/LH and Vit D but he thinks its likely.

I was a bit relieved though as he started the call in a really depressed voice saying we've got your results in but unfortunately so glad its just lost. I'm tempted to wait a few days incase its found though presumably they tried to find it.

Went for gynae hospital appointment today and told doctor FBC lost and he said we will do that now. Said other lost ones are a waste of time but they think other ones may not be lost.
