Atypical facial pain success stories

Hi all,

I have been suffering from atypical facial pain for six years now. Initially doctors believed my condition to be Trigeminal Neuralgia and treated it as such. I was prescribed Tegretol (400mg slow release tablets three times a day) and well a Lyrica (150mg three times a day). Surprising this combination accompanied with codeine worked for me for the past five years.

A few months back, however, my pain tripled in intensity and nothing seemed to work. I lost my job - I would snap at people at work because I was in so much pain, and completely lost hope of ever “getting better” or getting my pain back to a tolerable level.

I have been referred to a pain specialist who has put me on amytripline 50mg a day. This has worked somewhat but I’m still in horrid pain.

Has anyone overcome this horrid condition? I would love to hear any stories of hope, and if there is anything else I can try?

Thanks so much - Roselyn
