Should I see my GP or am I just very unfit?

For the last couple of years I have been getting very breathless when doing even a small amount of strenuous walking - e.g. walking up stairs. I just assumed that it was lack of fitness.

Then in the summer I hurt my knee and have been unable to walk more than a couple hundred yards without intense pain (I'm waiting for physio for this) so I have been avoiding all walking and most days I don't leave my flat. Now when I walk even a short distance or if I do any housework more than light dusting I get so out of breath that I feel light headed and need to sit down. On Thursday I vacuumed the sitting room and I was so breathless and exhausted after I'd finished that I was shaking and needed to lie down.

This morning getting dried and dressed after having a shower had the same effect.

Should I go and see my GP or am I just very unfit? (NB I am 57 y.o., never smoked and am slightly overweight)

See your gp asap. I hope it is nothing but would definitely get it checked out . X

If you’re being sedentary and a bit overweight your body will struggle with simply tasks. Go to the gp and get yourself checked but start doing exercise. Even with a bust knee I was swimming. It’s easy on injured joints and bones but will keep you ticking over.

See your GP as soon as you can. It could be that ypu've become deconditioned, but it could also be that you have a heart and/or lung prpblem. Tge sooner you get seen the better.

Go to your GP asap. It doesn't sound much and it probably isn't anything to worry about at all. But without wishing to alarm you, I ignored silly little symptoms and I'm now not in a good position.

Think about other things... I needed to pee very urgently - I put this down to weak pelvic floor. I had a fat belly - I thought I was simply fat. Seriously, no matter how daft you think you might be, no matter how old / overweight / unfit - go to your GP. They will not dismiss your worries and will be very glad if they can send you away knowing there is nothing wrong.
