Just been advised that I need to have a plate and nine screws removed from my femur as it is causing problems. I had the surgery to put the plate in 3 years ago and had further surgery 6 months later to have a bone graft for non union of the bone. The specialist said my bone still isnt completely healed so is unable to remove the plate yet and suggests waiting for another year before having it done. It was an open displaced compounded fracture just above the knee. The plate is 9in long and covers the knee bone and goes up most of the femur. I have a 10 inch scar and a lot of muscle damage at the front of the leg from where they had do dig out bone fragments and do the bone graft. Also have a 12 inch scar down the outside of my leg where they put the plate in. I'm worried that the removal surgery will damage my muscles even more. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced anything like this and how they got on.
