Dd is 8 and has had a fever since Saturday evening. It's not really that high and goes up to about 38 during the afternoon. She has been very sniffly and has a sore throat. Took her to GP yesterday and said glands are up and throat is inflamed. Said it's a virus and will pass soon. I'm only giving her one dose of neurofen in the afternoon as she starts to feel a bit rubbish as she gets warmer. Her temp will then go down to 36.2. Bit worried about keep giving her medication but if I don't she won't eat etc. Do viruses take this long?I'm only used to a couple of days of fever.

I’ve had a fever for five days and have been really floored. This is the sickest I’ve ever been. Day six and the fever has gone but I’ve lost my voice through all the coughing. I think the ongoing fever is one of the symptoms of this year’s flu strain. You can alternate Calpol and ibuprofen and give lots of fluid. I wouldn’t worry about dosing her up - poor Love !
