People with IBS.. which antidepressant to take?

I'm really struggling with my anxiety and have done for years. I've always been resistant to taking any medication to help as I'm so worried about how it will affect my IBS. At the moment though I'm struggling to cope with being so anxious so feel like I need to try something.

I alternate between constipation and diarrhea. I also suffer with chronic anal fissures so I really don't want to risk getting badly constipated. If I get a bad tear I can be in constant pain for months, which doesn't help me mentally.

I've been doing research on the different SSRIs, and saw that sertraline doesn't tend to cause constipation.. but then I could end up with diarrhea! Really can't win!

Does anyone here take antidepressants/SSRIs and find they don't affect their IBS too badly? Or have any suggestions?

Haven't i read that SSRIs/ADs can actually help IBS as a lot of IBS is anxiety/stress related?

Hi op. I suffer from really bad ibs-d and anxiety. I take sertraline and it doesn’t give me any side effects. Don’t know if that helps.

I take fluoxetine. No side effects noticed.
