Can a white spot in a tonsil not be tonsillitis?

Hi all,
As per the subject line. I'm feeling under the weather and sore throat. Had a look in my throat (have had tonsillitis before...). There is a single white lump in one of my tonsils. It looks smooth rather than granulated.
Tried to poke it out but to no avail.
Any suggestions as to what it could be if not tonsillitis? tonsil stone? how can I know the difference?

I'm really hoping it's not tonsillitis, as that is miserable.

Tonsil stone, probably. They are sulphur like deposits, you can poke them out with a cotton bud if you're feeling brave. Whenever I have had tonsillitis, I've had a ramping headache, temperature, can't move my neck or head and literally can hardly swallow. It's a nasty infection.

Thanks Jane. It's gone this morning so I'm guessing tonsil stone (I gargled saltwater last night in an attempt to either kill or dislodge it!).

I agree, tonsillitis is evil. Last time I had it was on holiday without thermometer, and put off going to the doctor for 3 days hoping it would pass... that was a mistake!
