Have been taking Femulen (Sp) for years and last night i forgot to take my pill (dont know how i forgot as i always remember!) Had sex yesterday afternoon (real rarity!!) and i know i am due to ovulate - if you have sex BEFORE you forget to take the missed pill are you still in danger of getting pregnant??? (Doesnt seem to tell me this on my pack!)

Think you'd be ok but is it less than 12 hrs now since you forgot?? If so take it now and then carry on taking as normal and you should be fine.

Tessiebear · 28/07/2004 09:26

Thanks Wobbly - just taken it now and yes it is less than 12 hours

think you'd be perfectly safe then IMO. Sometimes they say to be sure, miss out your next break and take the pill back to back but think you'd be covered anyway.

HelloMama · 28/07/2004 09:51

I've not heard of Femulen, but do you take a pill everyday with no pill-free period? Are there 28 pills in your pack?

If you are taking the mini-pill you only have a 3-hour window period to take the pill, it is not the same as the combined pill where you have a 12 hour window, thus the missed pill routine is different!

If you had sex before the missed pill, you are ok, but you must abstain from sex or use condoms for the next 7 days.

Tessiebear · 28/07/2004 09:56

Yes it is the one with the 3 hour window Hellomama, so you think it was safe as i had sex before even though sperm can hang around for a few days?

HelloMama · 28/07/2004 10:07

As long as you have only missed 1 pill then you are still covered for the sex you had yesterday (lucky thing!), but you will not be covered for the next 7 days. HTH!

wobblyknicks · 28/07/2004 18:16

hm - I didn't mean take it within 12 hours for the 'missed-pill' period - was mainly meaning that if you miss a pill the best thing to do is take it asap, even if you've missed the window - but if its over 12 hours late then its too near to the next one to be totally safe taking it so you may as well just wait till the next one iykwim.

Sorry, just thought I should clarify.

mummytosteven · 28/07/2004 18:53

i think you should check with a family planning clinic - you have to be far more careful with the minipill than the combined oral contraceptive pill. AFAIK sperm can survive for five days, so if you ovulate even after sex you could still be caught. a family planning clinic could advise you if you needed to take a PG test to be on the safe side. sorry to be a voice of pessimism.

HelloMama · 28/07/2004 19:31

Don't worry wobblyknicks...! Just so you know, it is ok to take 2 pills together at the same time, because sometimes you only remember that you forgot to take a pill when you go to take the next one. This is perfectly safe. You shouldn't take more than 2 at the same time though - if you've forgotton more than 2 pills then you need to seek emergency contraception (if you've been having unprotected sex)or be careful for the next 7 days.

You probably know all that anyway though but I'm a family planning nurse so I just thought I'd clarify....!

mummytosteven · 28/07/2004 20:11

sorry hello mama to contradict u - didn't realise u were a FPC nurse!

wobblyknicks · 28/07/2004 20:19

hm - have always thought that but my FP nurse said don't take 2 within 12 hours of each other as it heightens blood clot risk - but maybe that was just directed at me as my dad has heart and blood problems

HelloMama · 28/07/2004 20:50

Wobblyknicks, I suspect the advice you have been given is specific to your situation as normally it is ok to take 2 pills together.

Always follow the advice you have been given from your local clinic as obviously they have all your medical history. I'm just giving general advice here and I wouldn't want to contradict any specific advice someone has been told to follow! (although I hope to be helpful anyway )

Mummytoseven - don't worry! I'm currently 40 weeks pregnant and missing work a bit....

Tessiebear · 30/07/2004 10:32

So just to clarify Hellomama - (sorry to be grafic) When we had sex i was protected by the pill. I forgot it that night - what if any of DH's swimmers were still "Hanging around" - As Mummy to steven says they can live for up to 5 days??

Or anyone?

The fact that you have been taking the mini-pill for years and this is the first that you have forgotton a pill in this pack (I presume ?) then the chances of pregnancy are extremely slim. This is because even though you may have bleeds using this method, POP actually stops most women ovulating after a certain period of time, plus it also affects the lining of your womb so that it would be very difficult for an egg to implant should one become fertilised (very small chance indeed). However, if you are extremely concerned and would DEFINITELY NOT want a pregnancy under any circumstances, you could get emergency contraception. HTH

Tessiebear · 30/07/2004 14:03

Thanks for that, i think i am worrying over nothing - you are right , i have never missed a pill before. I will stop thinking about it now!

mummytosteven · 30/07/2004 18:43

Hi Tessiebear - sorry if I added to your stress - if I had realised that Hello Mama was a FPC nurse would never have posted anything contradictory, given that she has loads of knowledge experience.

Tessiebear · 02/08/2004 19:11

Thats ok Mummytosteven - I think i am so used to taking it that i just pressume it will be ok. Since the missed pill on Tuesday DH and i went away for the weekend (Without Kids!) and obviously had sex (Ignoring the "Use protection for Seven days after late pill" advice) and woke up with a hangover on Sunday morning to discover i had forgoten my Saturday night pill (took it straight away!) and then went on to have sex again on sunday --- talk about saking for trouble Dh and i have recently been discussing the possibility of TTC no3, so possibly because it is in the back of my mind that we will go for it anyway i have been A bit crap about pill taking. ....watch this space

OP posts:
Tessiebear · 02/08/2004 19:12

Hi, I have been using the mini pill for atleast 2 months and I have been bleeding constantly, I went to a family's house and I stayed 4 days and I had left my mini pills at home by accident. So I didn't take the mini pill for 4 days

As soon as I went back home I took the mini pill before getting into bed and I had sex with my partner and I know I had to used a condom for 7days so I did.
My partner enjaculated, but the condom split and now I don't know what to do

Can you please give me some advice

Thanks

Iqrah · 01/08/2017 21:09
