Stopping Carbimazole instead of replacing it with thyroxine?

I had / have mild hyperthyroidism. I went on a supposedly low dose, I was assured, of Carbimazole and have gained a lot of weight, mainly round my middle. I eat well and walk / run between 50-65 miles a week (I have a Fitbit!)
My appt yesterday was rushed as they were running 90 mins late. I explained I was not happy with the weight gain and my endo suggested we swap and put me on Thyroxine as my thyroid is probably now under performing. He told me to continue taking the drugs he had originally given me until we can get the results of a blood test so we could know for sure what dose to give re thyroxine.
As the appt was so rushed I didn't have much chance to discuss much but, frankly, this seems ridiculous. Swapping one sort of meds for another. Surely it's better to just stop or at least lower the 35mg of Carbimazole...?
They tried to take blood after the appt but couldn't so I now have to wait for the GP surgery to do it, which is not until 31st (then I have to wait for the results, telephone consultation etc.)

I have Grave’s disease and am currently in remission. The maximum dose of Carbimazole that I was on when first diagnosed was 40mg so your dose of 35mg for mild hyper seems very high.
I would be tempted to reduce the dose but you should wait until the blood has been taken as it will skew the results. Are you sure you can’t get an earlier blood test through a cancellation?
