My son says his tummy is "tired and feels cold". Will he be sick?

TheWoman · 26/04/2007 19:39

Most probably not - he's probably just tired.
I know it is difficult, but try to concentrate his attention (and yours) on something else.
Can you read him a story to take his mind of it?

ScottishThistle · 26/04/2007 19:41

No I don't think so, any other symptoms!...try not to worry.

Thank you all! Now he says it hurts. Trying to be calm, not least because I don't want my phobia to affect him. As if the phobia itself wasn't bad enough, there is the guilt too!

I am sure he will be fine but is your DH about? Can you get him to snuggle up with DS and look after him so he feels cared for and your anxiety doesn't rub off? That is what I would do.

Steala · 26/04/2007 19:56

He's not here yet but will be in about an hour. Feeling a bit calmer now. DS is settling down to sleep and not distressed.

Thank you all for your reassurance. About 58 mins to go!

TheWoman · 26/04/2007 19:57

You'll be fine.

kels666 · 27/04/2007 14:28

Hope he was OK, I know how you feel. I'm dreading the moment my DD can actually tell me she feels sick. I'd rather it just happen so I don't spend hours panicking!

Poor you! Is your phobia mainly you being sick? Mine is mainly other people but if I think there is any prospect of me being sick I panic because I am absolutely horrified of being sick with someone else knowing. I also worry that if I feel sick then someone else, less well trained, actually will be.

Other than sympathy, the best practical advice I can offer is to drink some Coke. When I was in Nepal, I met people whose doctor had recommended Coke to kill off any possible bugs.

Hope you're ok.

My phobia (and it is VERY real) is of me being sick. Can cope with the kids, although whilst frantic back rubbing, I do look away and breathe deeply! Can't cope AT ALL with strangers' sick - like on the pavement or whatever. But that doesn't happen that often.

Last time I was sick, I lay on the bathroom floor for 7 hours stopping myself from throwing up. Waited til the feeling went away. Had to not move, and breathe through my nose, very shallow breaths.

I know that sounds mad, but it's the one thing in life I cannot do!

DumbledoresGirl · 31/08/2007 16:53

Good God BB, if my dh came and kissed me on the lips and then announced he had been sick, I would have instant grounds for divorce. Does your dh not know about your phobia?

Hugs btw. I don't expect I can offer better help than that.

Am I the only one here who is mainly afflicted by the constant "What if it happens today?" thoughts. I am phobic about being sick but fortunately never am so I don't worry too much about things like restaurants/social situations, and I am phobic about others being ill but actually, when the worst happens, I get on with what I have to do because I have to do it.

The reason my phobia ruins my life though is that I am constantly, and I mean constantly, worrying about when the next incidence (in my children) will occur. Dh says most men think about sex every 10 minutes. Well I worry about someone being sick every 10 minutes.

Tatties · 31/08/2007 17:08

"Am I the only one here who is mainly afflicted by the constant "What if it happens today?" thoughts." - No you're not the only one DG That is the main part of my problem - I cannot get these thoughts out of my head - and in effect you are living as though dealing with illness all the time rather than just when it happens.

DumbledoresGirl · 31/08/2007 17:17

Exactly right Tatties. There are no days off because every day is a possibility.

The stupidity of it maddens me!

I just feel like it's such a waste of time and energy feeling like this... but I can't help it
