DS (5) has had a temp and a cough for 2 days so I took him to see the triage nurse and she did a urine test and said he has a urine infection!

I told her he wasnt one for drinking a lot so we are working on drinking and weeing a lot as he tends to hold it in and his wee is very yellow.

Am a bit worried about the blood and keytones in his wee....what does it mean?

She has sent his sample off to be tested.

Blood and ketones are quite common with a urine infection so try not to worry. Anti-biotics should clear it up.

ahh ketones! NOT keytones!!

yep he has antibiotics and is on Calpol and Tixylix!

Cranberry juice is good for urine infections - will he drink that?

I will try it! We are working on water at the moment and he has been walking round with a little bottle of water all day.

I used to suffer quite regularly from urine infections and the best thing i have tried is cranberry juice - I use it in tablet form and i haven't had a UTI for about 2 years.

Ketones just mean you're not eating enough - at that particular moment I mean, not generally...they kept telling me I had them in early pregnancy, it was because of the morning sickness, all it indicates is your body is using its reserves for energy. Prob your DS wasn't eating very much when poorly.
The blood is normal with a urine infection as PP said, it'll only have been a trace, not to worry - just try to get him drinking a bit more to keep them at bay
