Chest pain and sensation of lump in throat - scared

I have been suffering for 2 years with chest pain on exertion and the feeling of a sore and 'lumpy' throat. I have had numerous tests and last year an endoscopy found that I have a sliding hiatus hernia.

The Drs don't seem to be able to say whether this is causing the symptoms which are getting more severe and prolonged. The medication I am taking for it does not seem to be helping and I am now starting to worry that they have missed something and I have a more serious condition (OK - throat cancer). I have been back to the GP so many times and am getting nowhere.

Does anyone else have experience of a hiatus hernia and did/do you have these symptoms. Has anything relieved them?

I have a slight hiatus hernia, I did feel a lump in the throat sensation and difficulty swallowing which is why I had the tests that revealed it. However, I am still not sure it was the cause of those symptoms. I think if it is associated with acid reflux as it normally is then that can cause heartburn type pains which some people might describe as chest pain. Not sure why they are worse on exertion, although I think reflux pains can be worse on bending.

I have had issues with muscles in face, neck etc going into spasm and causing pain in the area.

Are you something like omeprazole or lansaprazole? I would not panic at all but would go back to doctor and review the medication and discuss if current symptoms are anything that needs investigation. There are many not worrying causes of chest pain of course, but worth mentioning for sure.

Sorry, just seen you are not having much luck with GP. Why do they say they are not concerned? Could be worth seeing a different doctor or just being persistent, if only for reassurance purposes. I also found weight loss helps re hiatus hernia symptoms, but only if you are overweight to begin with.

Common symptoms for hiatus hernia, yes. Is there any talk of surgery for the hernia? Otherwise it’s always just managing the symptoms through medication.

No experience of a hiatus hernia but I had what you describe for a couple of years before being diagnosed with acid reflux so agree with pp. 3 months worth of omeprazole cleared it up and touch wood I’ve only had to go back once for more when it started again.
It really worried me too at the time. Definitely worth mentioning to your GP
