8 mo has bleeding gum after a bump.

DS (8mo) hit his gum hard on a step, and it bled

Is there any chance this can damage the baby teeth underneath? They are literally just about to come though. Is there any point in me worrying about it?

Thanks

I am not a doctor or a dentist but imho it is very unlikely to damage the teeth. They are well cushioned by gum.

When my dd was about 1yrs old, she fell over and hit her face on a glass on the floor. (naughty me!) Her gums and her nose was bleeding like hell! She was screaming and I was mortified! Luckily my dh was there and he calmed us both down. He cleaned her up and checked her over she was fine just a little bruise. She had some calpol and went to sleep. We phoned the doctor and told him what happened, he said the usual 'just keep an eye on her, should be fine' and she was. Im not sure if this is any help to you but kids are yougher than us mummies think sometimes. Maybe phone your doc to get advice like we did?
Hope he is ok

Thank you MG. I think it bled where the gum was cut by the edge of the almost erupted tooth. Am feeling a bit calmer now, though. I tend to go into a panic when I see blood!

Don't worry - the same thing happened to my DS, I think when the teeth are literally about to come through any little knock is enough to nick the skin.
