Apart from labour

I would say a back injury I suffered as a child , that was painful.

OP posts:

Gallstones for me worse than any other pain i’ve experienced including labour, twisted gut, a kidney infection for which I was hospitalised or a dental abscess.

RumTiTum · 05/01/2018 15:07

"Appendicitis. It wasn't even that bad.
So you can imagine the shock when I went into labour..." Twofishfingers

"appendicitis
a million times worse than labour!" HolyShet

A great example of why it's so hard to compare!

I have a weird thing where my knee cap sometimes suddenly hurts so much it makes me want to vomit, I normally have to sort of massage everything back in to place, more painful than all three of my labours and have no idea what causes it.

ratheroverwhelmed · 05/01/2018 15:08

Physical or emotional?

Emotional, I'd say miscarriage/babyloss - but that is ongoing torture that cannot be compared to anything.

Physical, i'd say when my first born was trying to arrive through my spine - or it felt that way anyway. Never felt pain like it.

UrsulaPandress · 05/01/2018 15:10

Knee replacement. The first 36 hours were agony.

MissBax · 05/01/2018 15:11

Burst ovarian cysts and hydrosalpinx was horrendous. Also post dural puncture headache although that was a different kind of pain. Ughhh

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/01/2018 15:13

Breaking my back, blood gasses are a close second.

DullAndOld · 05/01/2018 15:14

breaking my wrist when I was ten, falling off the crappy kitchen chair that mother had rescued from a skip (she didn't need to btw) as I was climbing up to get the bicarb to make cakes. The doc thought it was hilarious and wanted to know if I was making rock cakes...

It was sooo painful that my screams brought the fam running. Then later at the hosp I had to wait alone on a bed for hours as it wasn't long since I had eaten and I needed a general anaesthetic..

Still had to go to school the next morning...Grin

SPD when I was pregnant - hands down the worst pain I've ever experienced. 24/7 agony for 12 weeks, without being able to take any decent painkillers. The birth was a breeze after that - got by on a couple of paracetamol!

Floralnomad · 05/01/2018 15:16

Most painful was frostbite in my fingers , absolute agony and definitely worse than labour .
Worst pain was the 9 months that I was having bilateral shoulder pain investigated prior to surgery , it was just relentless 24/7 pain that wasn’t touched by an assortment of pain killers .

shushpenfold · 05/01/2018 15:17

Herniated disc hotly followed by dd1 being born with her arm up. Joyous.

Thebluedog · 05/01/2018 15:18

Migraine

When I had the vast removed after breaking my wrist

Breaking several ribs

JoandMax · 05/01/2018 15:22

An awful bout of tonsillitis which caused an abscess - I have never felt so ill or been in so much pain. I lay on the bathroom floor for about 3 days wishing I could have the energy to cut my throats out. Ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics and fluids as I hadn't been able to drink more than a few sips for days. I remember DH getting me to have sips of water and having to grip the edge of the bath to swallow and nearly passing out in pain.......

Oddish · 05/01/2018 15:22

Dry socket, such a relentless pain Sad

verystressedmum · 05/01/2018 15:23

Dislocating my knees, I put it back. It’s happened on both knees quite a few times.

Anniethinggose · 05/01/2018 15:23

The afterpains after my last child. Didn't have pain relief giving birth but my god I nearly passed out from the pain the day after and was on the verge of calling an ambulance cos I thought something must've been wrong. However, it passed after a while.

shumway · 05/01/2018 15:26

Period pain.

Skadespelerskorna · 05/01/2018 15:27

Broken collarbone aged 11.

mrsreynolds · 05/01/2018 15:29

Dry socket

Gallstones

Lumbar puncture headache

Chest infection after gallstone op that led costochondritis

All of the above ^ were much worse than labour imho

60percentofthetime · 05/01/2018 15:29

I had all 4 wisdom teeth out at the same time and got dry socket in two of them. God that was awful. Apart from that I had a sterile water injection for my back pain during labour. That was hands down, the worst acute pain I have ever experienced. If I ever go through labour again and am told the baby is back to back, I'm having an epidural!

ClumsyCow · 05/01/2018 15:31

FlowersFor CMOTDibbler

Not long ago, I had carpal tunnel surgery in my right dominant hand, had an unusual reaction with pain and swelling that the Dr thought was Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. The pain was immense, burning, stinging, excrutiating, constant, it was horrendous. I mentioned cutting my hand off. I have been on constant painkillers, high dose vitamin C daily and intensive daily physio and it is now (touch wood) on the mend. Dr now says it is not CRPS for which I am so, so thankful. I can now use my hand more or less normally but it is still stiff and painful but the swelling and colour is better. The thought of living like that permanantly was souldestroying.

I have had 3 children and numerous abdo operations but this pain was something else.

BeyondWW · 05/01/2018 15:33

I'd put both trigeminal neuralgia and some of my migraines above labour. Labour was quite enjoyable, in its own way.

Toooldtobearsed · 05/01/2018 15:33

Following a double mastectomy and rads/chemo, i finally giot the long awaited reconstruction.

Chose a diep, which is all 'natural', they take flesh from your belly to make the boobs, essentially.

The day after the op, i tried to get out of bed. The pain was like nothing else i had ever experienced. Tbf, i had drains coming out of me everywhere, but i honestly could not believe just how painful it was.

A week later, all was well, but ten years later, i still remember that agony!

Welshlovebicuit · 05/01/2018 15:39

Plantar fasciitis - it's toothache in your foot!

It's a toss-up between gallbladder pain, sinusitis or dry socket after having my wisdom tooth out.
