Apart from labour

I would say a back injury I suffered as a child , that was painful.

OP posts:

I've had three DC, Gallstones and Cholecystectomy, shoulder surgery, agonising toothache and total hysterectomy for ovarian cancer, yet, the worst pain for me is cramp in my thigh. It absolutely excruciating and there's not a lot you can do for it. I wake up in the middle of the night and dance around the bedroom wailing and moaning, until it subsides.

exWifebeginsat40 · 09/01/2018 18:13

a haematologist attempting to do a bone marrow biopsy from my hip without an anaesthetic. sweet fucking Christ but that hurt.

I did rip a finger off once but shock meant it didn't hurt a bit. it did after they sewed it back on!

herethereandeverywhere · 09/01/2018 18:22

Unmedicated period pain. Frequently fainted as a result.

Back to back induced, hyperstimulated labour was worse. I wanted to die. If you'd have handed me a gun I'd have shot myself.

LEMtheoriginal · 09/01/2018 18:31

Gallstones for me. Closely followed by toothache.

My recent mirena coil fitting was bad too - I'm avoiding the 6 week check. My cervix went into spasm like a poster on the first page of the thread and the Dr couldn't get it "around the corner" I was literally gripping the wall - I swear to God no one is putting anything up there ever again!!

greenlids · 09/01/2018 18:55

Dental abscess, and tracheal spasm. Awful, both of them and the tracheal spasm left me unconscious (ambulance job), but the toothache pain was worse as it lasted for a lot longer.

rocketgirl22 · 09/01/2018 19:02

A total hip replacement without painkillers on day one.

Caused PTSS for over two years. Nothing much worries me about pain anymore after that.

HippieGoth91 · 09/01/2018 19:13

I have a twisted pelvis and inflammatory arthritis in my back. When that flares it's far more painful than my c section was (no opiates).

MistyMinge · 09/01/2018 20:50

A dislocated shoulder, several times. Had to have morphine and sedation to put it back in. Every movement was absolute agony.

Being on syntocin drip for induced labour. Contractions just seemed to be constant and do intense. I remember feeling like someone had stuck a dagger in my hip. DS was stuck and I think he must have been squashing some nerves.

Some of these experiences sound truly awful. I think mine are tame in comparison.

Hippydippydoo · 09/01/2018 20:56

Having a thrombosed pile injected 4 times emptied and then stitched shut... seriously, the worst pain imaginable...and I've had to do it 3 times now 😭

BerkInBag · 09/01/2018 21:00

Gallstones!!!

redavocado · 09/01/2018 21:10

Period pains with endometriosis. I'm hoping it's been good preparation for labour!!

GoingRogue · 09/01/2018 21:14

I've had a couple of c-sections and a prolapsed disc, but worst pain was probably the meningitis migraine hours after having dc2.

I'm wincing reading some of these posts btw!

Notallthat · 09/01/2018 21:25

Twisted knee is the worst by a mile thankfully when it happens it only lasts a few minutes then its maginally more bearable in that i stop involuntary screaming and started vomiting. For me it was far worse than any broken bones, gall stones, operations, skull fracture, whiplash etc that I've suffered.

ohdearohfear · 09/01/2018 21:36

spd. took codeine for it and it didn't touch the pain so stopped taking anything.
I would not wish that pain on my worst enemy honestly.

AcronymsForAll · 10/01/2018 01:14

I've never been in labour so I can't compare to that, but I think the worst acute pain I ever had was OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome?) following an IVF cycle. The really really bad pain only lasted for a couple of days, though, until I was hospitalised and had the blessed IV morphine.

I'd agree with PP that chronic pain is worse, even if not stronger, having had slipped discs in my back and sciatica that painkillers weren't really touching.

The worst one for me is the spine lengthening story.

OMFG.

anothernetter · 10/01/2018 01:49

I was in hospital and had been catheterised. Catheter was then removed and I was given a set time in which to attempt to pass urine. Well before the time was up I began to experience pain which quickly escalated and became extreme. I had already asked for additional pain relief and had been given oral morphine which didn't have any effect what so ever. It was excruciating! I think the nurses thought I was being a drama queen and no one seemed bothered about doing anything about it. I kept asking to see a doctor and they were saying no. It was late at night on the ward and I was howling in pain and the other people on the ward were trying to sleep. In the end I realised it was because my bladder must have been over full with urine and possibly in some kind of spasm so I begged them to put another catheter in and they did. The relief as my bladder was emptied was immediate.

TheHodgeHeg · 10/01/2018 01:54

Worst pain was having an IUD put in for the first time. The nurse said it gave me a taste of labour pain Hmm

NoSwsForYou · 10/01/2018 02:27

@mrsreynolds you’re the only other person I’ve come across that’s had costochondritis!! I’ve had it three times and each time for the first day I literally can’t move. Breathing hurts. I’m dreading a reoccurrence while ds is still a toddler.

I recently —tripped over thin air— fell over and bent my knee the wrong way as I did so. The pain was so bad I fainted.

I also had debilitating spd and was pretty much immobile for 12 weeks. Turning over in bed was agonising. I remember getting out of bed in the mornings and the pain being so bad that my legs would give way.

Also... labour. Induced, on a drip, nothing touched it. Has and air don’t work, three epidurals didn’t work, dismorphine workwd for half an hour of blessed relief. The pushing phase was fine and lasted 20 minutes but active labour lasted only 40 minutes and I believed I was dying.

notangelinajolie · 10/01/2018 03:01

DVT. I thought my leg was going to explode. Fortunately I was in hospital so someone came and injected morphine into a vein. Three weeks earlier I'd just given birth to my third DC and having a baby was a walk in the park compared to the pain of DVT. I'm not religious but that night I prayed to Jesus to save me. I nearly lost my leg and spent three weeks in hospital.

KnitFastDieWarm · 10/01/2018 03:11

Viral meningitis just before Christmas this year. Fuck me, I'd rather do my 28 hour ending-in-an-emergency-Csection labour every week for the rest of my life than experience pain like that again. I was sobbing and begging for help in A&E in between bouts of vomiting. I didn't start to feel remotely better until I'd been pumped full of steroids, painkillers, fluids and antiemetics. I do not recommend!
The lumbar puncture that accompanied this joyful experience was the icing on the crappy pain cake Grin

LesLavandes · 09/02/2018 07:40

Hornet sting on base of my foot. As bad as childbirth and no pain relief

Back pain - I would rather give birth again than have to go through that again.
