Sore breast when cutting back bfing - why?

Well that's it - am b'fing DD (nearly 13 months) less because am back at work p/t. The last two days, have had very tender "upper slope" of one breast. Not improved by resuming b'fing or expressing or indeed warm bath. Would be grateful for any thoughts on this - not something had with other two children both of whom continued b'fing in morning and evening for a period after went back to work.

Red patch or lumps?

krabbiepatty · 24/04/2007 11:59

No red patch. Cannot feel a lump but it's hard to feel very vigourously due to tenderness.

It sounds quite horrid, and I'd bet it is a potential blockage, so probably the only thing to do is keep bloody feeding when possible, damn. Also painkillers.

yick and owww. is it engorgement? have you tried gentle massage in the shower. or only feeding dd from that side? neurofen will help as it's an anti-inflammatory.

Thanks you two - it is unlike my usual experience of, yuck, engorgement but imagien it is some specialist variation perhaps combined with some blockage. Will try all these suggestions. Sadly i don't think I used to think of breasts as having "slopes" in the olden days.

I've just stopped bfing and have had really painful breasts. Expressing a small amount with a pump or my hand helped (as I didn't want to resume bfing), gentle massage and a warm shower. Or a warm flannel if I didn't have time to have a shower.
